AIBU?

To think you shouldn't buy yourself presents in December!

DH asked for an XboxOne. He also started buying himself games. I pointed out that I might find him a package (console + game) and to know what games he'd bought, which ones he would want and to warn him not to buy any more.
I was lucky and got a great deal in an Amazon Lightning sale with the console, an extra controller, 2 games and Xbox Live Gold membership.

Today he has told me that he decided yesterday to upgrade back to Gold membership in time for getting his XboxOne!!! Don't know how much they cost but think he could have waited to see what he got. I've told him that I've got him one too and he's not sure if he'll be able to use it after his runs out or if he could get a friend to buy it off him.

AIBU to be grumpy that he bought himself something this close to Christmas?

No YADNBU! Why would he do that? Also I would be miffed if DH bought things to go with a present he hadn't got yet, feels very presumptuous to me. What if you couldn't afford it, or had found something else to get him?

It's possible he can use the second gold membership next year as I don't think the codes expire.

But I think you are a little unreasonable to expect him to not buy anything in December and is an illustration as to why significant presents for adults is a bit silly really.

Isn't it just easier for him to choose and buy his own XBox stuff. After all, there's not much of an element of surprise is there? He know's he's getting an XBox.

You can run them together so it should just extend his membership.

Well I bought myself a new net curtain online. I'm pretty sure my dh hasn't got me one of those!

This happens all the time between me and my dad. I was moaning a few weeks ago that our old DVD player was about to give up the ghost. I bought a cheapo one from Amazon last week, and mentioned it in passing to my dad. He was like Xmas ShockXmas Hmm. He's only bought me a top of the range Blu-ray player for Christmas. Grin I guess the kids can have the cheap one I bought in dd1's room.

I got in trouble for buying myself something last week. We were at a Christmas fair and I saw these lovely handmade necklaces so I bought myself one quickly thinking DH would object to the price.
Of course he found out but was annoyed that he couldn't get it for me as a gift rather than the price Blush I realised it was a bit selfish and impulsive.
So no, I don't think YABU.

My DP has 11 years of gold membership lined up. It really doesn't matter. You can just add the code on and it'll add another year.

My mum pulls this sort of stunt all the time. It drives me nuts. She's always raiding M&S in early December for the sort of stuff that we're bound to buy her for Xmas.

I think it's much easier to have a policy of not buying presents for adults at Christmas Grin - that's what we do - no misunderstandings/similar gifts/wasted money. We agree to exchange token gifts - or something foody and buy whatever we want for ourselves - so I always end up with exactly what I want Grin.

I'm quite guilty for this.

I've bought myself a new laptop and a new coat this month.

YANBU.

It's an unwritten rule in our family that December is the month to avoid treating yourself to precisely the sort of gifts it'd be reasonable to get for Christmas! That's not to say you can't buy yourself anything but just think first before splashing out on certain sorts of stuff.

Oh my dh and I know exactly what each of us is getting the other. He likes football crap and I have to consult him about which team etc. He's getting a Norwich City cap and a Man U top. Also those daft bangbang men's action dvd's. I wouldn't know what to buy. And I like scented soaps, which we buy together and he pays for. We aren't the most exciting couple in the world are we?! But I do get some small surprises for his stocking, bless him.

DH and I have 'pocket money' which is what we use for getting ourselves little treats like DVDs - we have an agreement to always tell each other when we are going to order something approaching Xmas/birthdays. TBH we usually tell each other whatever time of year it is, just in a making conversation way.

Still didn't manage to avoid a duplicate this year though - I texted DH all excited that I'd managed to get a rare Lego set for DD... turned out DH had already bought one for me! (I did ask for Lego but had no clue he'd managed to get this particular set)

YANBU, it's intensely irritating, especially when some people are hard to buy for.
Yet another Amazon package landed on the doormat last week, a book that would've been a great extra present.
We even have a shared list with what we might like for birthday/Xmas, why the hell didn't he put it on there?

I'm allowed to buy myself presents any day of the year, because no one else does. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. Grin

The slippers MIL bought me last Christmas have the sole hanging off and I've almost broken my neck falling down the stairs several times slight exaggeration however, I have not bought a new pair as I know MIL will have gotten me a pair.
If I can go about in daily peril op, then your DH could wait a little longer for new Xbox games.

I'm i not allowed to spend my birthday money then.

Adds 1 more of it sucks to have a birthday in December.

If people are stuck then just buy me loads of pods.

What has he bought for you? Hopefully something to occupy your time whilst he spends the next two years on the XBox?

I think buying a console is guy thing that most women will never understand.

OH has been waiting a year for the playstation to go down in price and finally bought it on his birthday. His birthday coincided with Black Friday and there was much angst over which deal to go for or whether he should wait a bit longer.

I told him to just buy the damn thing and don't look back.

It is very bad form!

Dp does it all the time!

This year he has been obsessively looking at watches and even bidding on eBay luckily he hasn't won anything yet as Iv got him one for Christmas!

My mum has told me what she wants and I secretly got it then a week later she casually mentions she had said the exact same thing to my sister so it's her loss if she ends up with 1000 things the same grrrr!

How hard is to just not get things until Christmas is over surely people can wait a couple of weeks.
