on monday is secret santa with the requirement of a hand made gift. i was well prepared and bought a kit online to make a soft toy. so fine and dandy but have spent the afternoon ripping the sodding house to pieces looking for it and cannot find it. i have cried but that is not solving the problem. i have no time left!!!!

so, what can i make that involves some degree of homemadeness that will not be totally crap and is suitable for an adult woman?

please please help- am fairly crap at creative stuff but can cook.

That can be done in a day easily. (Cellophane can be bought in Hobbycraft)

Put pieces in petit fours/cupcake cases in a nice box
With festive wrapping paper/napkins to line.

Gingerbread recipe with print out guide for cutting guide. Then buy a cheap cake board (or make one from layers of thick cardboard and silver foil) place house on top, wrap in cellophane and add a festive bow.

Christmas Bark - get a bar of plain chocolate and some festive looking sprinkles (maybe crushed nuts, dried cranberries, silver balls, coloured sprinkles, crushed candy canes). Melt the chocolate and spread it onto a baking tray to a few mm thick. Quickly sprinkle all the sprinkles on, put it somewhere cold to set, then when it is totally hard break lift it with a knife and break it up into big splinters, and wrap it in some cellophane, or a little box full of tissue or similar.

The fudge bit was not a joke though. Fudge is never a joke.

I think transport might be an issue with the gingerbread house Tbh - for you then for her. Tricky.

sadly my knitting and needlework skills were the reason i went with the kit in the first place (and it was perfect- a highland cow- her favourite animal), so the chances of me turning out anything in that line is minimal

and it was my sodding idea to get everyone to do homemade stuff- bugger!

You could put fudge in a nice box or tin, reused a vintage one. Or in a cellophane bag if you can be bothered to go to that kind of shop. Or even a kilner jar, bung a bit of ribbon on it...

Yes, if you use strong enough icing and leave it to set fully. You could always get a box to transport it in (corner shop may have some from transporting wine bottles that will be tall enough) to be extra safe. Depends what you consider transporting though - in a car from A to B yes easily done, on a train / bus etc. maybe not..

Mumsnet ivy wreath for front door (there is a video on this site somewhere). Dead easy - DD and I made one in about 20 mins. four or five long lengths of ivy, including variegated if you can get it. Tie one into a wreath-sized circle. Weave other lengths in and out and around until it's nice and thick and leafy. Twine in some glittery beads or natural berries or LED lights. Attach fake frosted fruits/berries leaves near the bottom (we didn't have any, so used a small xmas-dec robin and a set of bells). Attach string to top. Done

This sort of thing is usually a disaster when I try it, but ours looks FAB (though I say it myself - and the lady across the street agrees).
