Well our local tree is up. Please will you kind mumsnetters share our sad little Christmas tree far and wide? It has its own facebook group and is beginning to spread on Twitter.

Did you ever see, such a pathetic little tree.

Well, I think it's lovely..

But it does look as if Linus is going to stand next to it and tell us about the true meaning of Christmas.

Don't worry though, after you get all the lights and decorations on it from Snoopy's doghouse it will look fantastic.

Grin They sell better trees than that here for less than $30.

Poor tree. Can you go out and put a blanket at the base?

Mottram? Isn't it a bit posh there? Alan Garner and all that?

A town near me has a big tree, usually wonky, covered in a sparse sprinkling of ice white LEDs, in a square where there are no other Christmas decorations/lights in sight. Best of all, it is surrounded by those 6ft tall metal gate things they use to keep people off building sites, complete with breeze blocks under them. Total embarrassment. Not lit yet this year, but I don't hold out much hope.

my tree looks like it needs putting out of its misery. I daren't put it up as I end up feeling sorry for it.

This was our town's tree last year.

Yes, it is made of sagging balloons.

No idea what delight we're having this year. Road kill and green paint? Who knows.

Thats a rather pathetic tree...

Our little town is having the 'consumerist Christmas tree' this year. They have been collecting carrier bags for weeks and are running local workshops to help construct it. Our area isn't exactly crime free though and I am rather Shock at the prospect of a large, flammable object sat in the town centre.

It does tours apparently. YOU could be 'Next' (see what I did there haha!)

The carrier bag tree is awesome.

Needs more red in it but I can't think of any shops with red carrier bags...

I'm looking forward to seeing it Joffrey, though as last years tree had the lights pulled off after 2 days I don't fancy it's chances.
DD is going to one of the construction days, I've got some orange sainsbury bags and grey Ocado ones for but I'm struggling with red myself.

Different mottram, were the one associated with salubrious people such as dale Reagan and Harold shipman. Shock

Our little tree has gained fame and made the independent this morning. He's been decorated too by several residents and a carol service is being planned to raise money for a local charity! A,axing what a day achieves.

He even has his own Twitter account now too!

@littlebig_tree (no I don't run it.)

Our little tree is becoming quite the Christmas spirit!

About 9/10 years ago when I would have been around 17/18, I was in the local sainsbury. It was early January and as I was waiting in line I was looking at the reduced things. Among the dented tins and apples was a tiny little christmas tree, it was a miniature live tree in a pot (I don't know what kind but christmas tree like only about 6 inches tall). It had at one time, had sparkly things glued on to it, but most of them had come off and it looked rather bedraggled.

I have no idea why but it made me feel really sad and I couldn't leave without it Grin. It died anyway despite my care. I'm a tit.

Oh dear. Grin

My village has much better solution. There's a little garden, when it was created they cleverly put a suitable conifer in the middle of it - so all that's needed is some lights (usually the sort like coloured full-size lightbulbs that show up well) - sorted, and it gets bigger every year.
