AIBU?

Currys staff shouldn't get rude and call you an idiot if you don't buy their upsales and they should know the promotions that they have signs for

I'm really not sure how curys still exists, I only bought something from there as was on offer.

I had it reserved so expected to just rock up and collect it, I was wrong.

Waited for 15 mins for someone to serve me at the desk. Then when I said it was a tablet I was collecting they made me wait another 10 mins for their tablet "expert" to serve me.

He took ages on his computer, then disappear ed for 5 mins to get it. Then he came back and started on the hard sale of some "free" software that costs 80 but I can cancel it within 30 days and get my money back. I said no thanks, he got all assey saying I'd be an idiot not to get it and it makes no sense for me to say no. He was getting really rude and huffy that I said no. He got even worse when I didn't want to buy their cover or a case. He said unless I bought this software it wasn't safe to go on the Internet, liar.

Then when it came to pay I asked for the 20 voucher off,he said it didn't exist even though it is all over their shop with posters and applies to tablets only and he is supposedly the tablet expert. Took 4 members of staff for me to actually get the voucher applied. He was rude and nasty throughout.

I'm annoyed with myself for actually buying it after he was such a jerk. As I walked out I hit the unhappy buzzer several times.

I would put in a format complaint. He is probably on commission, but he shouldn't be serving you with that kind of attitude.

DD was told last week that she was pathetic by a customer 'service' worker. I complained and had a nice phone call from the manager today. Turned out the staff member was new, and he took a very dim view of what had happened. I got an apology, he asked me to apologise to dd on his behave and he is sending her some vouchers.

Currys is always shit in my experience. I haven't been back for several years and my life is marginally better for it.

thanks, i think i will compain. although not sure if it will be taken seriously as currys /dixons are known for being awful at customer service.

what company did you complain to?

i get that they are on comission but maybe they shouldnt be if the staff lie to you and pressure you into buying stuff.

I used to hate buying anything in Dorothy Perkins. They were always smiley as you approached the till, complementing you on your purchase. Then as soon as you decline the kind offer of a store card, their mood changed and they growled at you before hurling it in a bag.

Every single time. No idea how they are still in business.

a corner shop chain, but locally franchised and ours is quite posh and generally really good customer service.

I'd complain on facebook, you might be more likely to get a good response via social media. Good luck! :)

They're the same company as PC world aren't they? I sent my laptop for repair, got it back to find that they'd been looking at my pictures and using my laptop for their own personal web browsing etc.
Manager called me a liar at first but I ended up with a £30 PC world gift card. Woop de do!
I refuse to buy anything from them.

My mum was treated pretty shoddily in Currys the other day. She too got great pleasure in banging the shit service button repeatedly. Love that! Grin

I hope it doesn't go bankrupt. I've used my local branches a lot recently and they've always been really helpful and nice. You can't tar a whole company with the same brush because of one person. If we all did that we'd all be avoiding every shop ever.

We had this this PC World (owned by Currys). We wanted a pc, monitor and keyboard, thats it. We both work in IT and know quite abit about pc's. The first bloke who served us tried to get us to buy McAffee, told him that we got it free with our IP provider. He insisted we didnt and had to buy the disc. He then said we had to buy the Windows DVD to install. We got Windows free from work so didnt need it, again he insisted we had to have it or we couldnt buy the PC.

He went on and on and on and in the end we left it and walked out. We went back in about 20 minutes later, walked up to lovely woman in there, said we want this , this and this, and she got it all for us and didnt even try to sell us anything.

We were right though, we had McAffee from our IP provider and the Windows disc was actually included free with the PC. So that was about £200 he tried to con out of us.

When it comes to big ticket items - tv's, cookers etc - DP lets me buy them as I can be quite brisk and rather aloof with the sales staff if they start down the "you need to buy the warranty" guff. I am normally polite to sales and service staff - working for Asda drummed that into me - but I hate the way being polite is seen as a soft touch and that you are guillable.

Went there to try and buy a tablet. Apparently it was a clearance item we wanted and so the only one left was the display one. The apathy and reluctance to try to remove it and sell it to us was amazing. Went elsewhere

Agree 100%. They are rubbish.

Bought a few things from them at different times because I couldn't match their price anywhere else.

Several years ago I bought a fridge that they dumped unpacked in the middle of my kitchen only to discover after they'd left that it was the wrong thing and they charge for delivery.

Avoided them for some time.

And then bought a fairly pricey cooker from them a couple of years ago, again because it was cheaper than anywhere else. That had to be replaced because it became clear when my gas fitter came to install it that it had been dropped from a great height and the whole thing was bent.

I have learned my Currys lesson. I will never buy anything from them again no matter how cheap.

vodka yes thats pretty much what they tried to do to me with the anti virus. it annoys me because i know it is a con on a ipad but if my mum or gran bought one they would fall for the lies and scare tatics.

im sure there are some decent people at currys, but a bridge as only as strong as its weakest link.

Last time I went in I was just looking for those film covers you can put on mobiles to protect the screen. There was a section which seemed to be expressly for that purpose but nothing there. I found something else I wanted to buy, went to pay, stood in front of the counter with two assistants behind it for 5 minutes, they carried on with what they were doing and showed no interest. For all they knew I wanted to ask about some mega purchase. So ultimately I put down the item I had intended to buy and walked out, hitting the Unhappy buzzer on my way out.

They're awful, totally agree. You can never get served, the staff are either invisible or chatting to eachother. If you approach they see you as a nuisance interruption of their conversation. PC World is the same store now, and the same crap.
We wanted to buy a quite expensive laptop. Took (as you say, OP) ages to get one person, then ages more to get another person, then ages more for him to find one in their stockroom. Turned out they only had dearer ones which came with a memory stick already charged ("As you can "lose Windows and it could be over £100 to get your info back") Pack of lies. I said either find one without, or cheerio. Then they offered us the thing at the original price with its memory stick, but surely we were very sensible people and would pay extra for a 2yr guarantee? I lost patience and said we are VERY sensible people and because of that we're sensibly leaving the shop.
Back to Amazon!

There is something particularly bad about that chain.
Only buy from them if you really can't get it elsewhere, and if customer service means nothing to you!

Hairtodaygonetomorrow · 04/11/2014 18:32

We had the WORST customer service in PC World recently, it was a complete nightmare, almost comic in their ineptitude, but even worse, they implied we were stupid too even though it is their system/staff that were stupid and told us completely different things. They disputed we had paid for something, if we hadn't printed out something to prove it (as a phone transaction) it would have been even more of a disaster. Unbelievably rude.

My DH and I took my mother (80+) to Curry's to buy a fridge freezer. We left her to wander round by herself (she was no fool) and she found just what she wanted. It was the last one of that sort; it fitted the required spot in her kitchen and was a decent price. The only drawback was that the door needed to have the opening on the other side. They told her that they could not do anything about that.

We rolled up to where she was and she told us what they'd said. It was obvious from the door that it was changeable. We barked a bit made our opinions obvious and told them that Mother would buy it only if it were delivered with the door opening on the other side. She got what she wanted.

You shouldn't have been treated like that, but I like our local Currys. The staff are helpful and although they do try and sell you extras, they aren't pushy or rude about it.

yes they are shit, however, their shitiness went in my favour a year ago: I ordered an iPad mini, paid, it didn't come, they claimed it was't ever in stock. I said " but you took my money and i can see it here one the screen, in stock" so it is reordered

That one didn't arrive either. Cue more irate phone calls, then 2 arrived separately. Was only ever charged for one though. They are hugely incompetent.

Another person who won't buy from them again! I only started to get the issue resolved when I started tweeting about the appalling customer service. It's almost sorted out - it's been going on since the summer ... Never ever again.
