In modern UK the young have to look forward to a backbreaking amount of debt as even to be a pa you need a degree. Then once they graduate they will be lucky to get a decent wage and only a tiny amount of people under 30 (3% of homes win last six months were purchased by under 30s) will be able to buy a houses. They will probably have a miserable time stuck at home during their 20s and 30s finding it difficult to start a family. Then they will have to work for the rest of their lives. Whereby watching their parents who bought cheep homes, retire in their 60s and enjoy 20 years of retirement. Yes I know there are exceptions to what I said, but this does seem to be the norm in the south east. I can see things going nasty.

Children aren't going to declare war on their parents. Any wealth older people have goes to their children anyway. My parents helped us buy out first home and we'll help our DCs buy theirs.

There are far bigger threats out there, read some newspapers.

I think having other countries in control of our electricity is a threat, eg all our new nuclear power stations will be designed, funded and built by the Chinese.

I think most people are sensible enough to understand that student debt and high house prices are directly attributable to government policy, rather than the result of some vast, secret plot being orchestrated by the over-60s. So no, I think we still need to be worrying about racism and extremism, rather than battling pensioners.

It is shit though. I have decent graduate and postgrad qualifications. I did everything you were supposed to in order not to be marginal. I'm still marginal.

I've been made homeless three times and had to sleep on sofas. A permanent home would be completely beyond my reach - I've applied for social housing before and got nowhere. My (private, rented flat) landlord has just put rent up by another hundred quid. He lives in Singapore and doesn't feel he's getting enough out of us. He's instructed the letting agent to raise it by another hundred but the agent's told me privately "He doesn't see why he can't raise it by another couple of hundred. He doesn't feel he's getting the rate for the area. Students would pay it...." So again in a precarious position.

There is a clear and obvious division between how people are existing now and how they used to.
