To discard Benedict Cumberbatch for Matthew McConaughey in True Detective?

Darling Benedict, I still love you but oh my God, Matthew McConaughey in True Detective. His cold, icy cheekbones of sex. AND in a white vest. Why didn't I see it before?? Now I want to watch everything he's ever done. He's mesmerising in this. Sorry again, Benedict, it will be ok again between us when I sit down to watch my Sherlock box-set, I promise.

It's okay. If you discard Benedict, I'll have him Grin

Well, that's ok, I'll share - but can I have him back later, please?! Sorry, so selfish... !

Are you watching True Detective? Can't find any threads about it. It is bloody fantastic. Watching it with DP, and we watch each episode twice (second time on Sunday morning with kids locked away watching Disney channel) to get the bits we missed. I am lovin' the Louisiana drawl. (Last sentence said in a Louisiana drawl.)

I'm really enjoying it too. The pace, tone and Louisiana setting are just so fresh compared with all the other procedural police stuff that's already out there. Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson are superb.

Speaking of everything else MM's done, I watched Magic Mike the other day. Bizarre seeing him in that compared to as Rust in True Dectective - nice view though Grin

Come to me Benedict, leave CassCade, she's clearly a two-timing hussy Grin.
No, I haven't seen True Detective - you would recommend it?

We watch them all twice! When I said "bits we missed" I actually meant "the bits that we watched and then went 'what!???' to". Time is like a flat circle after all. (God, even while writing it I am saying it in a Louisiana drawl.) DP and I note the catchphrases and say them back to each other. Grin It was the same with The Bridge - picked up quite a bit of Danish....

I did Film Studies and our lecturer was fantastic - told us you need to watch every film at least twice to see the symbolism and the tiny hints and subtleties that you missed the first time round. You definitely need to concentrate on TD, as there are so many of them. And plus there's Matthew McC in his white vest. And his police suit. And with no shirt... He's soooo hot. But cold. I want to warm him up.

Cannot believe they are saying that WH and MM will not be in series 2. It won't be the same. They are perfectly matched and Woody is absolutely brilliant in this too, only I don't fancy him. :)

dances and cookie, sorry, I didn't answer you - just went a'rantin'. Yes, yes, yes, you must both watch it. Each episode twice. It is fantastically done in every way - it is like watching a slow film unroll, but by bit. Very atmospheric and creepy but really engaging.

Benedict says he's happy to share himself too. So that's good. Grin

YABU in choosing Matthew over Woody! Grin

Vince, not that I mean I get the "time/flat circle" analogy, it's just a good thing to say in a LD voice.

Woody is excellent. I knew he would have a fan base too!
Haven't seen Magic Mike but I might look it up now. I find it weird how sometimes you can know an actor and not find him remotely attractive until one day ... Wow. Sizzlin'. (If I leave the 'g' off the end, then you know how to say it, yes?) Grin

Surfing about last night on Tumblr and came across lots of references to a book called "The King in Yellow" which apparently is part of the basis for the whole 'Yellow King' thing. May try and get it on Amazon. Likewise found out that Nic Pizzolatto has written quite a few books! Fab. Love finding new authors.

And pictures of MM looking dark and dangerous as Rust Cohle....

I've been secretly coveting Woody since Natural Born Killers. Love me a charming psychopath any day of the week Wink

Geordierose, yes, I know what you mean. Completely understand your feelings for him in that. Rowr.

His Oscar speech went a bit south at the end. I'm having a word with him about it.

He told me he was leaving Camila for me.

OK true story: he once helped me carry my pushchair down the stairs in Hyde Park while running with his shirt off. I nearly died.

YABVU

Matthew McConnaughey, although a good actor and I'm happy for his career renaissance, is not attractive in the slightest. He's so fake and plasticky and Hollywood. And his teeth distress me.

Perpendicular he pinched my son's nose, said "hey little buddy" and was off.
My husband gets incredibly tired of me telling this story. I've been telling it a lot more recently what with MM's recent success.
