To cheat on my stylist?

For the past 2 years I've been going to a friend of a friend to get my hair cut and coloured, mainly because she charges less than half of what one would pay in a salon for the same treatment.

However, the last two times I've been to her, she has done a proper rush job and not really listened to me when I've asked for a certain look (i.e. asked for a swoopy fringe and she's half-heartedly run the scissors through giving me weird, wispy hair in front!).

I know I shouldn't expect too much for the price but my DH suggested I book in to a salon and treat myself since I haven't had much "me time" since birth of DD. It would be nice to get the haircut I ask for for once!

I have her on Facebook so she'll know I've gone somewhere else though. Should I tell her? Shall I just keep going to her and accept the unwanted haircuts and be grateful for the massive discount?

Do you all want me to fuck off with my trivial problem? (It matters to me, because usually we are skint so it's nice I might get to treat myself once!)

I was in the same boat.. Love the lady who usually does my hair BUT she doesn't listen to me!! I was also getting pressured because my bros new bird is a hairdresser and has her own business.. I was all up for going to her but she gave me a massive lecture on how she will not giving me mates rates etc and I felt uncomfortable sooo...

Saw an offer on groupon for a lovely salon doing a half price offer so I went along and the cut and colour are the best I have ever had.. Its your hair so if you can afford it then do it!!

Definitely go to the salon. Your friend is not giving you the service you are paying for - it doesn't matter if it's cheap, you should get what you pay for.

I think the best thing to say is exactly why you are going to a salon. Usually can't afford it....nice treat to get pampered with good products and nice coffee Brew!

You don't need to announce it to her, just do it. Sometimes people need a change. It sounds like she's bored of cutting your hair and maybe this will give her the incentive to re-motivate herself on the creative / listening front.

Just do it! Pretend you got a voucher if she asks.

Go for it, just say a family member or friend paid/ booked it/ bought you vouchers ;)

Don't let them "thin" it though - if it got thick during pregnancy. That happened to me!

That's what my current friend stylist does! She thins the shit out of my hair. When I asked for the fringe, she thinned my hair on my forehead, thus creating a weird pseudo quasi-fringe. And you're right, my post-pregnancy hair is super thick so wouldn't take to kindly to thinning.

Look, OP, it's your hair, your money. You shouldn't feel you have to justify yourself to your hairdresser.
My hairdresser, who works from home, started messing me about a bit and I just went elsewhere. No big deal. She could have kept my business if she hadn't dropped her level of service.

I'm going to a new stylist tomorrow because I got sick of not being listened to by someone who seems very bored by hair and has given me a mullet! I hope your haircut goes well OP

I once went into a hairdressers and said "please can you fix this, I had it cut last week around the corner, and the guy totally fxxked it up" - I didn't say who cut it but I found out later that the two stylists were BEST FRIENDS. I was quietly embarrassed - tho there was no confirmation that they ever made the connection. And I hold tight to the hope they never did.

Do it OP!

I put up with a sh!t haircut for 2 years as I was too polite to tell my stylist that she was making me look like my Nan. She was 21 and I'm old enough to be her Mum, hence the Granny hair! I even took in photos to copy, still no joy! A friend recommended her stylist so I guiltily snook off.

My new stylist is in her forties, is a LOT more expensive, but is worth every penny. Have had so many comments about my fab hair, even from strangers; and women in their early twenties have asked for her number, so I must be trendy ;)

So do it, do it, DO IT!!!!!

My friend started seeing my favourite stylist and went for an appt the week before me. When I went in, he suggested exactly the same cut as he'd just given her - and we don't look alike or have similar hair. Luckily I was cheeky enough to say 'we got a special offer on friendsname's do this week?' and he was so Blush. I got brilliant service for years later.

My point being, sometimes it's good to shake things up. Go to the salon, tell your fried DH treated you, then tell her exactly what was good about the salon, then see what she comes up with in the future.

A little competition can focus the mind marvellously...

Sleep, we must have used the same stylist. When I came out of her salon I would look 15 years older.....yuk.

I dont mind looking like a granny, I am one, but I want to rock a hairdo. I know what GHD means........
