I am so sick of not being able to follow stories correctly because I get confused by who is a BFF, or a BBF, a DH, DC, a DSiL, a DMiL, DFiL, DC2R (dear cousin twice removed) or whatever - where did this trend start and why are we perpetuating it? Just replace all the acronyms with "the person" in your head as you read, and it will be fine. It rarely actually matters who all these total strangers and their relations people are, you can still get the gist of their post and respond accordingly, and would maybe even be more unbiased without knowing "who's who" so to speak.

I get where you are coming from OP (LOL!) (Sorry, can't help it!) - I don't see the problem with the word 'hubby' - I have a hubby and I love him dearly. But apparently some MN'ers find it offensive, so to conform (and not draw unnecessary critical comments) he is my DH whilst I'm on here.

Well my DP said to his DSis that our DC looked like their DC2R but my BF said her DH didn't agree and that BFFs DD said our DD looks like me and DS looks like my DB. My DF thinks DS is more like my little DB and DD looks like DM. DM loves been a DGM to her DGC. DPIL aren't so keen.

2 letters are more identifying than 1. It's not exclusive to mn. There's lots of acronyms used in Internet forums to make it easier, particularly than typing husband or daughter every time. By all means if you want to type everything out longhand go ahead.

Resistence is futile. I don't use any other forums so I have no idea how many of our acronyms carry across elsewhere, but MN is what it is - put up with the DH stuff and benefit from the site, or move along.

I'm about as wise about it as is possible, but it's still silly. What's so wrong with bothering to type 'my husband' (who may or may not be 'Dear')?, or 'my kids' (as opposed to 'the DCs'). It's just something people do, like sheep, because everyone else is doing it, and basically, it's rubbish, really :) If it was an AID to communication, I'd be in favour, but it isn't. Ack, think it may be bedtime :D
