...unicorns?

startwig1982 Fri 29-Jun-12 20:52:54

hmm cos they're not real?

<guessing>

PomBearWithAnOFRS Fri 29-Jun-12 20:53:49

How do you know they don't? They're extinct because they refused to go onto Noah's Ark!

JumpingThroughHoops Fri 29-Jun-12 20:54:08

would that be because unicorn are in fact rhinos?

WorraLiberty Fri 29-Jun-12 20:58:09

I thought you were going to say "to wonder why more Christians don't believe in...punching Dolphins" grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget Fri 29-Jun-12 20:58:40

My dear old mum ( Salvation Army and Baptised Christian type woman) asked me if they were real but extinct?

Ummmm, no. {confused]

SillyBeardyDaddyman Fri 29-Jun-12 20:58:57

startwig that's an interesting point. The bible says they did though...

70isaLimitNotaTarget Fri 29-Jun-12 20:59:19

confused - pah!

SillyBeardyDaddyman Fri 29-Jun-12 21:00:08

worra shock I wouldn't be so predictable!

70isaLimitNotaTarget Fri 29-Jun-12 21:00:39

Are Unicorns any less/more believable than Pegasus?

MissFaversam Fri 29-Jun-12 21:02:40

I believe telly tubbies are real coz I pass their house on the way to my mums <round dome like thing> and I KNOW they are in there making tubby custard.

SillyBeardyDaddyman Fri 29-Jun-12 21:03:35

hoops I've seen that theory too, but I like this kind. Look it's under a rainbow and everything!

MrsTerryPratchett Fri 29-Jun-12 21:04:43

Are we punching unicorns now? What about Pegasus?

FourEyesGood Fri 29-Jun-12 21:06:10

A girl in one of my Year 8 classes refused to believe me when I told her that unicorns were fictional. Nothing that I - or anyone else in the class - said would convince her that they weren't just a rare type of horse.

SillyBeardyDaddyman Fri 29-Jun-12 21:06:15

PomBear they're mentioned apres la deluge too. Check out the book of Job.

SillyBeardyDaddyman Fri 29-Jun-12 21:08:31

I'm not punching a bloody unicorn! Have you seen the size of that horn? I don't need that in my nuts!

SillyBeardyDaddyman Fri 29-Jun-12 21:10:24

MissF of course teletubbies are real! I've seen them on the tv grin

Pickles77 Fri 29-Jun-12 21:10:45

Isn't Pegasus a unicorn?blush

70isaLimitNotaTarget Fri 29-Jun-12 21:12:23

Pegasus has wings but no horn.

And IIRC there's only one Pegasus.

ThreadWatcher Fri 29-Jun-12 21:13:04

Unicorns are quite obviously imho a fantasy/elaboration of ancient sightings of one horned deer like creatures - there is a theory to do with narwhals blended with deer/ibex/antelope (something to do with the vikings wanting to cash in on a haul of ivory? only a vague memory I have)

The unicorns mentioned in the bible are mentioned in the King James which isnt generally regarded as a reliable bible translation (by most scholars/Christians I know of)

The Christians I respect most dont believe in the literal exsistence of Unicorns.

70isaLimitNotaTarget Fri 29-Jun-12 21:13:31

Unicorns can only be touched by virgin maids,

Which is why you don't see many tripping round Romford hmm

SillyBeardyDaddyman Fri 29-Jun-12 21:17:22

The narwhal thing is interesting, but redundant. You don't see many narwhal frolicking around the forest and equally not many unicorns swimming in the arctic...

whiteandyelloworchid Fri 29-Jun-12 21:22:02

what does it say about unicorns in the bible

HeartsTrumpDiamonds Fri 29-Jun-12 21:22:02

Unicorns do NOT have wings. They fly on magic fairy dust.

I am a Christian and I do believe in unicorns. And for my DDs sake I will never say anything different on either subject - until they are old enough to start questioning and thinking and having intelligent discussion about it!

FoxSake Fri 29-Jun-12 21:22:07

They also don't believe in waiting for sex until marriage anymore apparently your life partner will do as I was told by a 19 year old student the other day who is of on mission work.

Disclaimer I am not a Christian and had 2 babies before marriage but I think it's interesting the goal posts have moved hmm
