It is a pleasant Sunday up here in the 'norf' of England and I have just been out for a leisurely stroll with the dog around our normally quiet neighbourhood. I say 'normally', as all I could hear as I walked around (at 2pm-ish) was the inane cheering, yelling and bawling of a number of blokes in a house somewhere en route. The monosyllabic drivel suggests that they were watching a bunch of grown men kicking an over-sized replica bulls testicle around a patch of grass. AIBU to like to think that in our little neighbourhood (which is largely populated by families like mine with young children and/or retired folk) that it would be too much to ask for the football fans to please watch a match without bellowing down the street? On a related note, AIBU for being a 35 year old married man that has bugger all interest in this sport that seems to the most important thing in so many peoples lives ?

As a fellow football-hater I hate to say it, but I think YABU. People are entitled to shout at their TVs in their own homes if they want to. And in the middle of the afternoon it's not like they're keeping the whole street awake.

I'm with you on the not understanding the nation's obsession with football though. I'm all for hobbies, and obviously some people enjoy doing things that others dont, but people just seem to get so involved in football, as if their lives depend on it.

YABU - as you say yourself your neighbourhood is normally quiet, therefore it's not as if it's a regular thing, and you had to be walking around outside to hear (ie it wasn't disturbing you in your own home).

YABVVVVVVU! I am quite a repressed person in rl and its only through football that I can voice loudly all my frustrations! So the roaring for 90 minutes has a useful purpose.

I was chilling out. No problem with people enjoying themselves - a few cheers or boos (or whatever) coming our of a house would not annoy me at all - just don't need to hear something like chimps having their knackers slammed in a door repeatedly echoing down the street on my day off ! I have never heard anyone make such a racket over golf, or rugby or F1, or any other competition. Never caught myself hearing something similar and thinking 'oh hang about, the golf must be getting exciting'...

I used to dream of meeting a man like you - one who hated football. Then I met one, and all was wonderful until number 2 son came along. Number 2 son had an obsession with all things ball before he could walk. My husband went along to various ball-related things with said son, in the name of good fathering, and now he is the most obsessive Arsenal fan ever. When you walk down our street, he is the man you can hear bawling out loud and getting thoroughly over-excited.
