Scenario: group of 40-something friends during girls night in. One, who has a new man in her life, admits he is a TV STARRRRRRRRR (actually he has a small, but regular, part in a popular TV drama, but none of us get out much and so are very impressed).

Conversation quickly turns to ?stars we have snogged? and having drunk over a bottle of wine in the spirit of friendship I ?fessed up that many many years ago (1984 to be exact) I snogged the face off Fish from Marillion. {bestillmybeatingheart} smilie.

Deathly hush ? and to a woman the next comment was? ?WHO?? followed by gales of laughter.

AIBU to think I should deserve some respect for my youthful slapperish indiscretions (they were No 5 in the Charts I?ll have you know!)

Wasn't he the one with a face like a sack of spuds?

That's impressive.

I will need to know who your friend's conquest is though, before I can advise you accordingly. PM me, if you need to.

I am trying to be impressed, but memories of Eddie Tudor-Pole keep beating the way to the front of my mind Blush.
I've just googled him, he hasn't improved with age.

I've seen Fish's nipples. Haven't snogged him though. Oh, and he's improved a lot with age.

I'm impressed (40-something myself), though personally I don't think I'd have touched him with a barge pole!

Well I snogged Shakin Stevens and he said I had the softest lips he ever kissed!

Won't anyone be impressed with Tenpole Tudor man?

I was a huge fan of Fish when I was 16-18 and would have been very very very jealous of the OP back then!

Still admire him, particularly for continuing with his career on own terms in the face of being very unfashionable.

I have never snogged anyone famous, but I did fall on Shane McGowan once, so I can at least claim accidental bodily contact.

Can you at least tell us the name of the show your friends man is in?

And Eddie Tudor-Pole?

Report
meravigliosa · 04/10/2011 14:11

ahem, have just checked my (admittedly trainspotterish) recollection that Kayleigh actually got to number 2 in 1985 (not 5, OP) and I am right.

I used to read about Fish and Marillion in Smash Hits - I always thought he looked a bit grubby and sweaty.

It was probably when I was going through my Sensitive Men Who Look A Bit Like Ladyboys and I fancied all the New Romantic girly types and used to draw them in my school diary.

Dude, I'm in my 30's, I'm impressed big time. Well done. I want more information. Were you a groupie?

I was asked out on a date with an even more obscure punk/pop artist and I am still very pleased with myself all these years later about my powers of attractiveness.

I think your friends simply just do not possess the nesessary pop knowledge to be impressed, just pity them...simply pity them.

Ed Tudor Pole? Someone here has done him? Tell me more, tell me more,, did you get very far?
Shakin Stevens? No way! He was married all through his pop career wasnt he?
GIVE ME THE DETAILS PEOPLE!

We had to meet the enemy a mile away, thunder in the air and the sky went grey, hoorah went the crowds...............
My best guess who the minor celeb is would be someone from Casualty, Waterloo road or a soap. A couple of years ago I would have said Reg Hollins from the Bill.
We're gonna have a barell of much much more........ over the hills with the swords of a thousand men.
