AIBU?

To be just a bit unhappy that we're lurching towards Autumn?

My least favourite time of the year is October/November/December.

I'm going to Greece on Saturday for a week and to Holland for 4 days next month. However it's getting very close to when the clocks go back and I can already see the nights drawing in.

Roll on next March/April: I hate, hate, hate Autumn and Winter.

YANBU

I hate the end of Summer. I fucking hate Winter. I hate everything about it, especially the C word.

What a depressing thought. Winter means 6ft of snow and -30C temps for us. :(

I think yabu, I like Summer but I love Autumn and Winter. I love snow and also those super cold crisp frosty mornings. As an adult I also enjoy the earlier nights.

I noticed this evening that it got dark a lot earlier than it did a week or so ago and, for me, that makes it hard to believe that it is still mid-summer.

I'm also off to Greece shortly and I know that when I'm there I will be revelling in the company of my gorgeous lover sunshine and hot steamy nights of unbridled passion heat and the earlier onset of evening that occurs in southern climes won't make one iota of difference to my happy summer frame of mind.

I love the fall; Keats' season of mists and mellow fruitfulness with morning dew crystallising petals and spiders' webs and I always look foward to Halloween. In the UK, November in is possibly my least favourite month, closely followed by January when it seems an age till the evenings draw out again.

If you lived in the southern hemisphere your preferences for certain months would no doubt be reversed - I was summer born north of the equator and would find it extremely difficult to adjust to my July birthday taking place in the depths of winter!

where are you kladdkaka? i am dreading winter too. the only thing i like about winter is the first 2 hours of snow Wink

Central Sweden. It doesn't snow everyday, only a dozen or so times over winter, but the temp never goes above -20 so it stays From November until March/April.

DontGoCurly I loathe Christmas too. I hate Halloween and Bonfire Night as well.

And as for snow: bleugh...

Sounds like you have similar winters to me kladdkaka - thankfully I don't mind the cold/snow. I actually prefer Winter to Summer, but Autumn is my favourite season :)

In fact I'd like to live in Greece or Cyprus throughout Winter.

"never goes above -20" Really?? Wow! We regularly get temps of -35C/-40C here (Canadian Rockies) but equally do often get gorgeous sunny days where it's around zero, but feels even warmer because of the sun. You really mean that you don't experience above -20C all Winter?? Shock

I don't even want to think about winter. I hate being cold, can't afford the heating on for long and I hate dark evenings. Really hate winter!

It's not so much the cold and the snow. It's the near perpetual darkness and the ice. I'm terrified of falling over so become a prisoner in my own home. My car has winter tyres suitable for driving on ice, but I'm still terrified of crashing. I don't want to die of hypothermia upside down in a ditch in the back of beyond :(

Kladdkaka that sounds truly horrible. I dread having to go to our Head Office nearly 100 miles away in the winter, but your situation trumps that.

Lazydog, last winter we had a few days of around -15C ish but the rest were between -20C and -30C. The coldest I've had here is -38C, but that's not so common in this area.

I love spring. I have rose bushes and small lilacs and lots of other plants in my garden. I'm always amazed when the snow melts and they're still alive. STILL ALIVE! Having been buried under a mountain of snow all winter. Shock

YABU in that there isnt much you can do about it!

However, it sounds like there is more to this than simple dislike of cold weather. Do you have SAD by any chance? there are treatments for it, so if it gets you down that much then maybe a visit to the doctor would help?

Report
ilovesooty · 15/08/2011 01:36

Actually Bogeyface I have wondered about that myself. Maybe that's a good idea.

Yabu. I love autumn winter as it's sooo much easier to dress well and I'm not covered in sweat.

Summer it rains, it's too hot, polluted And my electric bill goes through the roof for the AC.

If I lived in England however you would still bu because it always looks glorious in the country where my mum is.

I think that you should. It cant hurt and it may well help. I can sympathise in that I hate summer, unusual I know! But as I am overweight, currently a size 16 although I did have a baby 10 weeks ago, with appalling body image I hate not being able to cover up. Autumn and Winter are my favourite times of the year as jeans and huge jumpers cover everything!

Ooh no I LOVE Autumn and Winter. I love the predictability of it. It's going to be cold so dress accordingly. None of this "what's the weather doing today?" or having to dress for a range of temperatures depending on when it rains and if the sun comes out and it warms up. It's so much easier to look smart in the Winter too.

I love crisp frosty mornings and bonfire night and Christmas. Especially Christmas. Winter food is much nicer as well.

I'm not so fond of snow, well more the disruption it causes, but we don't get that much here.
