To name change again!!!! reasons for doing so

I have been a member on mumsnet since 2002 and I have just changed names for the hundrenth time.

Normally it's because I have posted too much infomation on myself and do not want to run the risk of being found out in RL.

I wondered if other people frequently name change or prefer to stay the same to build up an online persona.

I obviously know lots of names from over the years but no-one will know who I am.

I have my main CuppaTeaJanice name which I use most of the time. Sometimes I change it to another beverage for special occasions (Christmas etc) or just for fun.

I have one other name which I use when I need advice on embarrassing stuff. I don't use it very often though.

As far as I know though, nobody in real life knows my MN name, although they know I use MN.

I had been on Mumsnet for at least 2 years before I worked out how to namechange though!!

I like my online name, weirdly it feels like a part of me when I see it.

I don't bother changing it, not because I want to build up a persona, but I have no reason to really.

Although, saying that, I have changed it to something else when I've posted a couple of personal things, just in case anyone did ever recognise me from my waffle.

Yes I do - whenever I post anything that might identify me I always name change.

What I didn't realise is that you can literally just name change - I used to set up a new e-mail address and then set up a whole new Mumsnet talk profile account thingy.

I'd love to name change just for the hell of it, but it never seems to bloody save MNHQ are as baffled by it as I am.

Cameron I have namechanged hundreds of times and have always done it your way! Think have been Serendippy for quite a while, am fairly recognisable by all the little things put together but never ever post things such as:

AIBU to not want to go to my sister's wedding? She is called Jane Smith and the Wedding is at St John's Church on Sat 7th November. She is having 14 bridesmaids and purple flowers. Her invitations had a pcture of 2 dogs on them, etc etc.

How can people post things like this and think anything will remain anonymous? Even if the bride didn't read it, one of the 14 bridesmaids guests could.

So am never that stupid.

I like being "me" and being recognised as me.

AFAIK only DP knows my MN name (and MNers). Most RL people wouldn't ever suspect I was on MN in a million years so wouldn't be looking for me.

Just from memory pranma, go to mymumsnet at the top, sign in, go into registration details, change name, save, et voila

I namechange fairly often, as I post alot of private stuff on this board and so do not want people who might clue in to who i am looking up my name and seeing my entire posting history. I built up a proper profile once, but then realised that someone who i would have rather not know who I was had clocked me. As I had been asking for quite personal medical advice it was a bad thing to have been clocked.

Now, as mentioned in a previous thread, I namechange every week. If posting something very personal, then I will use a name just for that thread.

I only name changed after my first few months on here. My original name was a bit blah and after just lurking, decided to get a bit more involved and wanted a different name.
I don't mind being recognized, even have a picture on my profile, so not much hiding there.
Have to admit though that if I'd be looking for advice for a more serious or delicate subject, I would change name.

Nope. I sometimes tell people. I've namechanged over 100 times. I'm usually Show though.
