Are you trick or treating this year? Which day?

We don't have children of our own, but we like putting sweets outside the house for the local kids at Hallowe'en.

We don't know any parents, so we're not sure if there is a general consensus about whether T&T is OK this year, and whether it will be on the Sunday or the Saturday evening given Sunday is a school night.

If you're in England, what are you planning to do this year?

Sunday! Always on the 31st regardless of what day of the week it falls

It doesn't matter if its a school night. You should only get visitors on Sunday. People should only trick or treat on Halloween, not the most convenient date closest to halloween.

The night of Halloween when else?! Halloween Confused

I don't understand what all the angst has been about this year - I don't remember it being the case when it's fallen on a Sunday previously.

Trick or Treating is on Halloween, regardless of what day it falls! If someone knocks my door on Saturday they'll be getting it shut politely in their face with a reminder they're a day early!

Put a pumpkin outside and the kids will come knocking Smile

After 14 years of being parents, DH also this year suddenly wondered “what day” people would be Trick or Treating. Surely, I thought, he has noticed that it is always on 31 October! Nobody will have treats ready any other day.

It doesn’t matter that it’s a school night 5 times out of 7 - it’s not a late night thing. By 7:30 it’s pretty much all over.

Er Sunday 31st!....

Next year it will be an actual school night - Monday.

How strange!

Yep Sunday for sure. If I had anyone knocking on Saturday I'd ask them to come back again on Sunday. We've decorated and put pumpkins outside our house but not lighting them until Sunday evening :)

Years ago on 29 October I had a knock on my door and 3 teenagers chorused "Trick or Treat" . I asked them what day is it? "Halloween" they said. " No it's not, come back on the 31st". They didn't.

Great, looks like a general consensus of Sunday then! Thanks to everyone who answered - in our last home they tended to do the Saturday as well, but if feels like Halloween is a bigger thing this year for some reason - so many more houses dressed up already this week.

I see school nights as Sunday-Thursday, i.e. getting up for school in the morning. Not sure what's strange about my post!

I'm taking my two on Sunday, I agree about houses being decorated early this year, I've noticed quite a few already.

It's not like Bonfire night where organised fireworks displays happen on the nearest Saturday to 5 November - trick or treating only happens on 31 October no matter what day of the week it is!

Friday - our town always has Halloween on the last Friday of the month.

Great for the kids guising and also for the adults at fancy dress parties in the pubs.

I expect to have a few knocks on the door on Sunday. They will be ignored regardless of which day it is though.

Only on Halloween itself, only when darkness falls.
