What have they done to Cadbury's Twirl?

Haven't had one for ages and it was midafternoon coffee time so I treated myself to a Twirl to go with it.

How has it turned sickly, chewy and greasy?

I remember buying them fro the school tuckshop and savouring each chocolatey bite, but now it doesn't even taste like chocolate anymore.

It used to be made in Ireland so was composed of delicious old-style Irish Dairy Milk (iirc) - please tell me this hasn't changed?!

I think all Cadbury's chocolate has gone the same, weird greasy texture that doesn't melt in your mouth. Stopped buying ages ago, we now either buy Lindt or Aldi's own brand.

Chocolate overall is a complete let down now. Saddens me.

I remember those days when Kit Kat’s were wrapped in foil as was Galaxy. It was so luxurious and tasted like chocolate.

Definitely isn't the same chocolate since Cadbury's was sold to Kraft Foods/Mondelez 🤮

It doesn't taste like chocolate any more because it isn't proper chocolate. They have doctored the chocolate recipe with palm oil. Slimy, sickly and disgusting. Chocolate it ain't.

It's not chocolate any more.
It wax made with sugar.
How does Cadbury not know? Surely their sales are down?

Twirls were one of the last of the decent Cadbury chocolates - as a previous poster said, made with Irish dairy milk. I don't know if this has changed?

@LouLou198 - do Aldi/Lidl have Twirl equivalents, or were you talking about their chocolate in general?

Never been that keen on twirls. Something about the format made them a bit sickly. Nothing on a spira, at any rate. Goodness only knows how I’d find them now.

The only Cadbury’s I like is the marvellous creations. All the flavoured bits distract from the chocolate and the taste overall is nice. Still have fruit and nut occasionally for the same reason, but there are alternatives made with nicer chocolate there. But just a bar of the chocolate? Not any more.

Palm oil, sugar and junk. I avoid Cadbury's now. It's very sad but the shareholders are making money so who gives a shit about anything else eh?

I used to like Twirls but now they taste like they've gone past their sell by date. I buy Galaxy Ripple instead.

Palm oil.

Porfre · 18/09/2021 13:55

I think it's the palm oil, makes it much cheaper to produce

They're awful. There's a sort of bitter aftertaste too. Flake was ok, last time I had one.

Try microwaving a Cadbury’s Flake nowadays. It’ll catch fire before it melts. God knows what’s in it.

Kit kats are awful now, hardly any chocolate on them, looks like they were just waved at the chocolate covering machine as it's so sparse and it also has a funny taste to it.

Stopped buying the multi 2-finger packs a while back when I realised how long it was taking me to eat them. Used to only last a few days before they were gone.

I buy Aldi and Lidl chocolate products now.

Cadbury's chocolate has been ruined reformulated by Kart/Mondelez to maximise profits and minimise flavour. It tastes foul now, and the texture is oily and horrid.

Should have known it was the palm oil, which is in most things.

I won't be buying Cadbury's anymore.

Chocolate wrapped in foil definitely felt more special and like you were getting a treat.

@SkepticalCat unfortunately no twirl equivalent, just chocolate in general. Aldi do some nice mini bars.

SkepticalCat · 18/09/2021 16:55

Thanks @LouLou198 perhaps we need a campaign for an Aldi version of Twirl bars.

I am a big fan of Aldi and Lindt chocolate, but love the texture of Twirls.

I rang Mondelez to complain about the change in the taste in their chocolate since taking over Cadbury. I was told I was making it up and no way have they changed the recipe. I still do not agree. What did they do to Milk Tray? Hideous

All cos of Cadbury selling to Kraft. It isn't a chocolate company anymore. It is a confectionary company.

The cocoa solids quantity is way down..,cocoa solids being more expensive than palm oil and all the other sugar, and sugary "distractions" they put in/ on their "chocolate" now. Don't buy it., I haven't for ages. I buy Montezumas, way better!

I noticed Twirls have gone horrible recently and now taste like the rest of the Cadbury stuff that's been ruined. Although I find Giant Buttons are still ok, wonder if I'm imagining it or they're still produced using old recipe??

You're not wrong. Twirls used to be the chocolately chocolate. All Cadbury's are tacky lardy sugary fatty shite now since they were bought out years ago. I buy the cheap own brand for DS and feel guilty (but he's 5 Blush) and get green & blacks 70% stuff if I want a chocolate treat.

Slightly off topic but I recently bought Lidl white chocolate buttons and Nestle Milkybar buttons - Lidl’s were far more creamier and richer and fulfilling.

I have moved to freddos, which still taste like they should.
