Opinions on the name Rex?

Rex has always been a main contender for our baby boys name, however whenever we have let some friends and family know of our potential name choice we get MANY mixed reactions. What are your thoughts on the name?

To me it is a dogs name.

Fearne Cotton and Stacey Solomon both have DSs called Rex (if that makes a difference).
Personally I think of a labrador. Sorry.

I really like the name Rex! It was on my shortlist for a boy.

Personally I love it and considered it for my DS but it just doesn't go with our surname so had to chose something else.

I really like it, it was a favourite of mine but DH vetoed it. I think it is a bit of a marmite name.

We had a dog named Rex, too.

I like it, though, and with names you will never get everyone's agreement on MN. My DC have traditional names and all I ever see on name threads is "how boring, how unoriginal" but if I'd named them Shin and Regus I'd get "how pretentious to try and find anything unique". Can't win.

I taught a Rex. Made me think of dogs Tbf. Lovely boy and by the end of the year it had grown on me. I know about the royal connotations but to me it will remain a dog’s name.

Fine, if you are having a dog. Why should it matter that some sort of celeb has called their child this ?

It's a dog's name. An Irish setter. Or a Jack Russell.

I think it’s not as popular as a dogs name now, so his peers might not have the connection. Unlike my DD friend called Elma which was too close to Elmer and spent the majority of primary school called an elephant.

For a dog or rabbit, fine. It means King, as I’m sure you know, so bit pretentious and very aspirational! Animal name, not for kids.
