Most surprisingly delicious food you’ve ever eaten?

Today I went to an Italian cooking class with Angela Hartnett - it was amazing, everything was delicious but I was a bit sceptical about pumpkin-filled pasta with crushed amaretti biscuits...

It was honestly the best thing I’ve eaten in a long time. I don’t even like pumpkin. Now seriously considering buying a pasta machine so I can make it again 😂

Would love to hear about foods that surprised you by being awesome... I’m too full to eat dinner so I’ll eat vicariously through you!

For me, it’s what you fancy when you fancy it and it hits the spot.

I didn’t want a big meal for dinner tonight..so I enjoyed Belgian choc covered rice cakes with mashed banana on

Haggis with whisky sauce. Oh my god. I don't know why haggis has the rep it does because it is bloody amazing.

I went for dinner with my DB last week and he took me to a little Vietnamese place. Slîghtly surprising choice and not a cuisine I have ever considered. My god it was fantastic and I can’t wait to go back and have another go at the menu.

The other best thing I’ve ever eaten is (weirdly) “cock scratchings” - like pork scratching but made of chicken skin. A local restaurant used to sell them. I’d order extra to take home. Then they stopped selling them just as I developed pregnancy cravings and I haven’t had them since.

Seriously considering begging a butcher for chicken skin and making my own 😂

Haggis, cheddar and beetroot chutney panini. Oh my it was delicious. Baxters made the chutney before they closed locally, God I miss it.

Also years ago I went to a restaurant and had pate in fillo pastry. It's the nicest meal I ever had.

Black pudding. I absolutely shouldn’t like it . I’m mostly veggie because I’m squeamish but my God I love a bit of fried black pudding! Also, I tried piccalilli expecting to hate it....delicious and I have to stop myself from having it in every sarnie!

Samphire. Never heard of it before and didn’t have a clue that it was even veg let alone marine veg! Love the slightly salty flavour, we have it with our Sunday roasts most weeks

@MrsWicket I was so disappointed with samphire...it just tasted of salt, salt and more salt. I like salt but I couldn't eat it.

@SinkGirl Sainsbury’s do a fresh pumpkin stuffed ravioli and it is delicious. Not as good as Angela Hartnett’s I’m sure but it might do until you get your pasta machine...

I have it with olive oil and ticket and Parmesan or blue cheese crumbled on top.

Hummus on toast in quarters with a blob of beetroot pickle on top. Creamy, sharp, crisp, soft...

I went for a taster menus once and one of the courses had beetroot meringue which is up there as one of the best things I have ever eaten.

Oooh definitely bitterballen! Got it on my first trip to Amsterdam and absolutely loved it! Been back twice and first stop has been for a beer and bitterballen and cake for dessert

I know - they sound disgusting. I can honestly say they were insanely good. I miss them (sniff).

Thing is, as I was eating it I was thinking “this could be really gross if it’s not done right” - I would never have predicted it would taste as good as it did! Might try some premade but suspect I wouldn’t like it - I better order a pasta maker and some fancy organic pumpkins 😂

I’ve got another one...as I child Imtold my Mum I’d just eaten the most delicious roast potato...she revealed they were parsnips which I’d previously refused to touch. Bloody love a roast parsnip now.

Toffee apples! Made them for Halloween to entertain children but had very low expectations that they’d actually be nice. They were amazing! Lovely crunch of toffee combined with fresh apple. The children weren’t interested so DH and I had 3 each!

@Ratonastick this took me by surprise too. Years ago I stayed in NE London and was taken to a little restaurant behind market stalls.

It was in the late 1980's before the layout at Wagamama had hit our streets.

I was surprised at the long bare room with trestle tables and people squeezed in.

The Vietnamese cuisine I encountered was still to this day some of the tastiest food I've ever eaten.

Steak Tartare!!! Worth a go, truly delicious, only had it once10years ago and I still think about it!!
