We’ve had a Samsung (not plumbed in, old house) and an LG (plumbed in, new house) ... prefer the plumbed in LG, but it’s a phaff to change the water filter

We have an LG one...doesn't require plumbing. Would thoroughly recommend

I have my Mumsnet fridge freezer (a few of us were given one to keep in return for providing a product review). It’s a Samsung one with a full width freezer drawer below a full width fridge. It’s been fabulous - really useful space with everything being full width rather than the more typical tall thin configuration. Since getting mine, two friends have gone on to get their own. I’d thoroughly recommend. Similar to RFG23UERS1 model.

Mumsnet you don't need any product reviewers for an LG do you? Would be really great timing if you did as this kitchen lark is costing a fortune!

I have a Haier one:

ao.com/product/hrf450ds6-haier-american-fridge-freezer-silver-47379-27.aspx

It's not plumbed, though annoyingly we realised when we moved in there is a water feed behind so we could have had a plumbed one after all.
I love it. It's not the fanciest brand, but its spacious, especially the freezer.
Kenwood are the cheapest I believe, though I've read a lot of bad things about them over the last 2 years so perhaps one to avoid.

I've got an LG - I think it's the biggest one they make. It's plumbed in to make ice but it doesn't have a water dispenser because we didn't want to lose the door storage space. I love it.

Our first one we bought was a Maytag, and it was amazing. I nearly cried when it died after 12 years. It was solid, efficient, quiet and nothing at all broke inside it. As they had become more popular by the time this happened, we went for a Samsung one as a replacement, and oh my god it is a heap of crap. We've replaced nearly all of the veg drawers at least twice, all the door trays (the main one 3 times) and the cheese drawer has broken too. It's all really brittle cheap plastic inside, and the outside has badly scratched and looks awful (stainless) . It's around 3 years old and looks around 10 years old. And the worst feature is the constant bleeping... it bleeps if you have the door open for more than 10 seconds so putting the weekly shop away stresses me out so much, I have to pull it out, unplug it and then plug back in when I've finished. And the water filter is a joke, costs around £15 and lasts 3 months if you're lucky.

Can you tell I hate it Grin. My honest advice is to buy the best you can afford and go and see it rather than order online. The quality of the inner fittings is really important as it gets a lot of use.

HG non Plumbed. The biggest one available when we went to buy. Hate how it overshadows the rest of the kitchen, but it was a function over style purchase.

Yes, I need a large one, so it needs to be functional. Most of the ones that I've looked at seem to be stainless steel, when actually, I would mind something that is graphite grey or similar.

Googled some more and found some darker coloured ones, these fridge freezers are so, so different to what I currently have, not looking forward to the building work but looking forward to the end product!

We have a plumbed in Samsung with ice and water. It has a drinks flap in the door.
As a fridge freezer it's fine but it beeps, eats filters and makes a noise with ice.

Ours is gloss black so shows up a dry mark and scuff also easy to dent.

TheQueef - oh no, I want low maintenance do you think a dark matt finish rather than gloss, would fair better?

Fisher and Paykel - double fridge doors and drawer freezer section. It is very good with great customer service.

I would find one in a store to test Daphne I prefer a matt finish, the gloss even shows up bloody cat nose marks. Fingerprints or scuffs every time it's used.
As pp have mentioned the plastic interior is flimsy too. I give leeway because D'S is just ridiculously heavy handed but three broken draws and two door shelves in five years for an appliance costing £1000 +.

We have an lg one and it's really nice. Not plumbed in, but does water, ice, and crushed ice. It's HUGE, and has some fresh filter thing meaning food stays fresher longer. Thought this part would be a bit of a con, but honestly nothing goes off in there. We've left an opened carton of milk, gone away for 8 days, come home and it was still fresh, despite label saying it was a week out of date. Veggies and salad stays really crisp, and it's really easy to clean. We got it on offer think it was about £800, but even at full price it's worth it.

Also our LG one is a darker, "duller" stainless steel than the others and doesn't show up marks like the others do. We used to have a ss Samsung which needed daily cleaning of the doors, this one is so much more forgiving!

We had an LG side by side until it died earlier this year. It was 15 years old.

We have replaced with a Samsung with the freezer at the bottom as it has more storage space in the freezer. It also has one of the doors is in two parts so you can get milk out for example with out opening up the whole fridge.
