My 2 children are after one of these but obviously they are pretty expensive! Has anyone ever seen these on a special offer? I’m guessing Black Friday may be a good time to buy?

They didn't go much cheaper last year but are a great buy, dh uses his everyday in the winter. Amazon subscribe and save makes the hot choc more affordable if you use it

I couldn’t find it discounted anywhere last year but I have to say that I love it, one of the best things I ever bought.

They do love a hot choc in the winter so thinking it would be well used. It’s good to know your DH rates it. Does he use hotel chocolat hot chocolate or can you use any brand? Do you just put the powder in with milk and leave it to do it’s thing?

Sounds v promising. They are 13 and 15 and I’m really trying not to buy rubbish/things for the sake of it. So far I’m doing well, I’d rather buy a few decent things rather than a load or tat and they are old enough to appreciate that now. I see very sell it might see if I can get a discount on there.

You could just get a regular milk heater rather than the specific Hotel Chocolat one. We have one we got as an Aldi special buy. It has a frothed attachment for making cappuccinos and a regular one for just heating milk which is perfect for doing hot chocolate.

Dualit’s non HC branded one is half the price: www.johnlewis.com/dualit-milk-frother-black/

QVC have this on three Easy-Pay (price is the same £99 and there's £4 P&P ) you get a 30 Day Guarentee anywayway but it's extended this time of year.

I don't know how much it would cost to return if you didn't like it , but you can give it a try out ?

Have you tasted the hot chocolate? Do they do samples in the HC shop?

Krups £50 one at john lewis makes hot chocolate.

I think the QVC one comes with a box of single serve hot chocolate sachets and a couple of cups. This seemed to make it good value compared with buying just the Velvetiser from HC.

DH was thinking of getting me a velvetiser for my birthday, they're made by Dualit and when he researched he found that it's basically the same as the standard Dualit milk frother Sister linked to above, so he got that instead.
The hot chocolate it makes is gorgeous, he's even been drinking it himself and he's not normally a fan. We've used both Hotel Chocolat velvetiser sachets and dark chocolate shavings from Callebaut.

I don’t think it’s been on offer yet, it’s usually excluded from any promotions. I bought one last year and love it. Use it loads, love that it gets the temperature perfect as well.

Bought one for DD last Christmas (early 20s). She loves it.

I've realised my link didn't work, I tried to make it shorter but obviously took out too much. But it's easy to search for. I'm considering getting one to replace my Aldi version as I think they hold more milk. And look nicer.

I was going to post about the same thing. The velvetiser looks stunning but very pricey. I seen a milk frother on Amazon - Miroco brand. It has quite good reviews and is a lot cheaper. Not quite the same I know but I think I might go for it instead.

@FoxBaseBeta that's great news. I kinda want one now so might get it 'for dh' for Christmas - can you use any hot chocolate in it? There's a great choc shop that does hot choc & would be fab!

I’ve never heard of these but my kids love hot choc and so do I. Do you use powder or is it special sachets like a coffee machine or what?

MorrisZapp · 03/11/2019 16:00

We've got a hot milk frother but I'm assuming you're not meant to put chocolate in it? Or can you?

Report
MrsAgassi · 03/11/2019 16:04

I’m sure last year HC did a package deal where you got sachets included as well.

We use ours loads. Worth the money in my view. The hazelnut hot chocolate is amazing.

Report
MustBeThin · 03/11/2019 16:07

You can use any hot chocolate in my krups one so presume its the same for all of them, add milk first then chocolate powder/real chocolate shavings on top then switch on.

I've been looking longingly at these for a long while, but is it just a milk frother? I've got one of those to go with the espresso machine (sucker for both a kitchen gadget and a posh drink Grin). If its just a pretty frother I'll stick with what I've got!

My next question was what is the best hot chocolate?

I wasn't interested until I tried co couture hot choc in Belfast & it was amazing. I want to try the salted caramel one & the chilli one!

Our milk frother doesn’t make not chocolate anywhere near as good as the velvetiser. It’s just not as smooth or thick. Our milk frother may be a bit rubbish though.

We’ve only used the hotel chocolat sachets. Maple & pecan, hazelnut and gingerbread are lovely.

Report
MustBeThin · 03/11/2019 16:18

llama it's just a milk frother, I got my milk frother that makes hot chocolate about 4 years ago before the velvetiser was a thing.

buck I like Whittards hot chocolate, loads of flavours and they do 3 for 2 offers quite often.

Someone up thread mentioned a milk heater. Is that a posh name for a little saucepan?
