Which supermarket are you doing your Christmas food shop with?

So, after not getting a slot with Tesco I know have to actually go Christmas food shopping. I keep seeing nice things advertised for each supermarket but I don’t think I can handle going to more than one to do my shop. So where are you doing your food shop?

Butcher for the turkey, Sainsbury's for the normal stuff, M&S for party food, desserts and antipasti.

Not bothering with delivery - never had anyone deliver everything I ordered.

I guess I could buy frozen bits in advance? We are not having turkey so should be easy to buy a piece of beef on the 23rd. I love some of the m&s food but it would mean I long drive as it’s in the opposite direction to all the big supermarkets. We have a Waitrose near by but it’s small. No Sainsbury’s so my choices are Tesco, Morrisons or Asda for the main shop.

I never go M&S normally only for Christmas

Butcher for the goose, ham, bacon chipolatas; deli for veg, cheese, fruit; fishmonger for the salmon; local artisan bakerery for the bread.

Cake and pud are both home made. Booze from Majestic and wine/spirit merchant in a nearby market town.

I've got shares in Tesco though, so please go there.

Farm shop for meat, veggies and eggs. All ordered to collect Christmas Eve. Most other stuff can be picked up in advance. Dessert may be from Booths or Waitrose.

I have £60 in clubcard points to use in Tesco so maybe I will get all the fresh bits in there.

I have started buying frozen party food as and when I pop into different supermarkets.

I need nice cheese and pate, maybe my local farm shop might be best for these?

Morrisons, though I may order an M&S turkey that DH will be delegated to collect.

Butchers for the meat, ocado for everything else. It's coming on the Saturday morning so still time to get any other essentials that may not come, although I've found them to be good just before Christmas so never been a problem in previous years.

Ours is coming from Sainsbury's (delivery) then collections from M&S and Booths. All on 23rd. Busy day!

Probably Booths, I don’t think I can face trawling them all, it’s too much choice and I just get flustered and end up buying a whole load of “bits” that don’t add up to much.

Aldi for wine.

Aldi for most stuff, Lidl for cheese and chocolate, M&S for treats. Butcher for turkey, ham and spiced beef.

Turkey is already on order with the butcher, Asda and Aldi for other ingredients, always get an M&S dessert though.

I love Booths, none near us sadly, would seriously consider retiring to a town with a Booths .

Tesco and Lidl are a minute's drive, so I'll be heading to both. Other supermarkets are 20 mins away.

Lidl for the bits we like and can buy in advance (e.g baking ingredients, stollen etc).

M&S for prepared Christmas dinner food. We treat ourselves to this so that neither of us are relegated to the kitchen.

Ocado for main Christmas shopping. We were able to book the delivery nice and early and know that their substitution rate is generally very low, so we’ll be most likely t I get what we want.

SuperValu for most, M&S for some bits (near my office so not dreadful). Local Tesco Express for emergency items, if I don't want to face SV again. Lidl for Stollen and a few other bits (there are 3 near me!). I keep threatening to go to Dunnes, as it is a massive SM, but it's a lot of hassle these days and they have changed the layout a lot so I can never find things.

I am torn about a bird. DH only wants a crown - I prefer a whole turkey. There's a good butcher beside SV, SV itself is good, M&S is ridiculously expensive. So we shall see about that.

And I will have to buy sprouts, as my plants have been rubbish and there are tiny tiny tiny buds on the stalks, but they won't grow enough in a month. (I do have pumpkin from my Dad's garden, and beans from my own, already frozen for the day).

Turkey and other meat from an online place we had last year - they are near my mums so she scoped them out first.
Tesco for fruit, veg and odd stuff.
I’m making the puddings and sister is doing the canapés this weekend and freezing.
Booze we have picked up ad hoc depending on offers.
Chocolate is being picked up from a shop local to my mum.

Thank you ladies, I think I will try and pick up a few bits each week and then just go to Tesco for all the fresh stuff on the 23rd. I really don’t want to battle around 3 different shops with my dd’s (both ASD).

I’m spending today sorting out the cupboards and the freezer so I can store a few bits.

Yes, I get most of my stuff from Supervaloooo. I'm looking forward to my free Irish coffee and mince pie on the 8th.
I find it better for variety than my old Waitrose (when I used to live in UK). I also top up with stuff from Aldi (chocolates) and Lidl.
We've got several butchers shops locally and a brilliant farmers market. Plus my own fresh eggs and I've still got a few cherry tomato plants bearing fruit in the Polytunnel.
The only time I did an Xmas online shop was on Boxing Day several years ago when I'd been ill with flu and had no food in other than a few frozen bits and tins. It arrived on the 27th with lots of ready meals and I was so so grateful.

Thankfully managed to get a Tesco delivery slot on the 23rd that will be for most things - gonna get a lot from Iceland - amazing bargains there.
