What meat will you have on Christmas Day?

No one here likes turkey, what meat will you be opting for/ what are you doing with it? :)

We usually have turkey, beef, pork and gammon. I hate Turkey too, so just go for the others.

I will do Nigellas ham in coke as that does for sandwiches/ Christmas dinner/ buffet.
Waiting to see if our friend has any fallow deer in, if so will have venison.
Will also have a small turkey breast as DSDad will sigh dramatically at a Christmas dinner with no turkey.
Then I could do duck breasts, a piece of lamb or pork as well.
What I really fancy is a rib of beef or a goose but can't really justify the cost this year :(

We don't do turkey - will be doing sirloin and slow roast pork with crackling and includes roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, roasted carrots/parsnips/shallots ,sprouts ,leeks and apple sauce . I love goose as well, but there are too many of us this year, and there would be a fight to the death for the meat :) for such a big bird , there isn't much!

No meat at all as we travel up to my vegetarian In Laws on Christmas morning so we can fit both families in

On Christmas Eve when we have dinner with my family (up the road) we usually have beef or lamb, sometimes fish

Definitely spiced beef. Probably a bit of ham (but maybe not).

We usually do turkey, we did pheasant one year, I am trying to persuade DH to do goose but he thinks it will be too much for just us 3. If not a goose, probably a turkey or maybe a duck. (We do like turkey, but probably because we tend to limit it to Thanksgiving (just a roast breast is plenty as we do it after getting home from work) and Christmas - when I do a whole one, make stock from bones, freeze leftovers, have sambos for visitors etc).

No pink - for years we only had one- we went through duck/pheasant / lamb etc, but I now host 8-10 so it helps to have two - then everyone gets something they like (Hands up vote on meat ) Everyone who comes gets to pitch what they want, which is why i am doing too many veg :) and regardless of said vote I am cooking pork as its my favourite !

goodness me, are you people all running carveries? or cooking for families of 20?
we have a capon or cockerell every year. Much nicer than turkey, and there aren't many of us so don't need a 10kg whopper

actually biddypop if you want any spare meat, a goose is not bad- its mostly fat ( which I hoard for roast potatoes) - you can maybe feed 6 with a biggish bird, but there won't be masses- theres a big empty cavity in there... :)

Pink When we were growing up, big families and "tradition" meant we always had a huge turkey, huge ham and sunday roast sized spiced beef. On both sides.

When it is just us 3, we tend to not do everything - certainly only a bird doing 6-8 people (we'll eat a reasonable amount, I'll make stock to freeze and I am quite happy to freeze leftovers after keeping out enough for a couple of sandwiches), a small ham joint (enough just about for 1 dinner normally - a slice each with Christmas dinner and remainder gets shredded into a very special leftovers stilton and ham gratin dish that we love) is a possibility but not a certainty, and DH adores (and I will eat) spiced beef but we also get a small one of those.

We do have plenty of visitors over the days after Christmas, and I will make use of leftovers well. None is wasted. But it's the one time of year I will do multiple meats.

Agoodbook thanks for that. I buy goose fat for potatoes, DH is always scared there'd be loads leftover on a full bird. I may work on him again.

Might do rib of beef or a beef wellington or even pork with loads of crackling for Christmas Day. We will definitely do a ham on Christmas Eve though. Can't be bothered with turkey as it tends to be too dry and bland.

for us it will be turkey and a joint as not everyone likes one or the other with mashed & roast tatties along with roast parsnips, sprouts, and all the other trimmings - we have 16 coming this year...AGAIN! its good fun - I love it when everyone is around.

DS and DD will have a plain roasted chicken breast each (DD is a Traditional Roast and Trimmings type. DS is very suspicious of anything new and fangled)
DH and I are vegetarian.
So it'll be a "something roasted or something in pastry", I'm scouring for inspiration in the magazines

Pheasant for me! It always seems to me such a festive bird. And people seem to keep giving them to us for free! (We live in the countryside).
