Christmas

Well, that's my DS1's Christmas ruined thanks to a 2nd twat of an Ebay seller.

I am so so upset and angry.
Decided to get DS1 a 2nd hand PS3. 1st one i bought off Ebay arrived and when i tested it, it didn't work. Eventually got seller to agree to me returning it (at my cost!) and got a refund.
Bid and won another one, emailed seller to double check all working etc, they said yes all perfect.

Arrived today, Just tested it and it powered up and seemed fine until i put a game in that i bought for Ds1 ready and the console shut off and bleeped followed by yellow light then red flashing light. Now won't work and the game is stuck in it.

I have no money to get another one so now Christmas is going to be ruined for Ds1. I can't think of anything i can do at such a late date.Sad

Fucking Ebayers. AngrySad

Oh that's awful. Are there any computer-y type game shop repair shops near you where you could take it to get someone to have a look at.

Agree a computer/gaming repair shop might be a good bet. Really hope you get it sorted.

Fairly local to me we have Game,Game Station, etc but i don't know how much that would cost or how long it would take. Sad Or how i would get it there as i don't drive and of course Dc would all be with me.

I hope he's old enough to understand what has happened :( Get your refund from the second ebayer and look again after Christmas, there will be more from decent sellers. What were their feedback ratings like??

I'm sure if you google the problem you'll be able to get the game out.

I have had a similar problem with something for Christmas so today I have been out and bought a lot of different things and will get what I wanted in the New Year and do it for the birthday instead.

:(

He is 13 so yes old enough to understand but it will be so hard on him and i got DS2 a 2nd hand xbox which seems to work perfectly. Sad I didn't look at feedback until after paying, was in such a hurry to get one, and they have 2 feedbacks! I am such an idiot. Angry

I just got my DH's PS3 repaired (it had what they called 'yellow light of death' - a common problem - sounds like what's happened to your second one) and it cost £75 (although I paid an extra tenner for a six month guarantee).

There are lots of small businesses that do this - this one was in Stirchley in Birmingham - where are you OP?

I'm in Somerset. Really can't pay out another £80 to fix it as it cost me £160 already.

I said on another thread sprouts that is awfull bad luck. Get a refund/start a dispute on ebay and buy from a reputable seller in the new year (HMV, GAME, GAMESTATION, CEX) they all test consoles and offer at least a 6 month guarantee.

I would never buy a console from ebay (a ps2 that died quite suddenly cured me of that). Oh and for your second hand xbox I would create an account on microsoft and enter the product code. This will tell you how long the guarantee is valid for. We are on our second xbox which has died from red ring of death. They are sooooo unreliable, but luckily cover for 3 years for this problem.

Your poor ds, hope he understands.

I've just googled - most places seem to charge from £60 upwards to get it repaired. What an arse. So sorry this has happened to you. Have you contacted the seller?

Am thinking maybe you could get him to refund you the repair cost maybe?

can you make the xbox a joint present? while you get the ps3 fixed or refunded

SproutsMakeTortoiseFart · 22/12/2010 08:26

I have emailed the seller, no reply as yet. Also emailed a repair company local to me for quote. I was wondering if i could get a part refund to cover repair but not sure if they will or if paypal would make them.

DS1 hates xbox which i why i ended up getting one each. Would have preferred to have bought new and made it joint present.

How do i tell DS1? I am thinking maybe best to tell him before Christmas day but now the nice surprise is spoiled. He has no idea i planned to get the PS3. Sad

Could you buy another 2nd hand one (eventually you will get your money back from the other one if you go through paypal)? There is a shop (near you) that sells 2nd hand consoles and games near you which sells consoles or you could trade in some games to get one?

SproutsMakeTortoiseFart · 22/12/2010 15:40

I just don't have the money to buy another one. Checked in Game and Chips today and they don't do repairs.

I just don't know how or when to tell him. Sad

could you get one from a catalogue, i think people like littlewoods guarantee delivery if you order befre 6pm tomorrow.

It'll be new of course but you can pay monthly

Do you have a local market? At our market there is a stall that repairs Iphones, PS3's etc and they are about half the price of shops etc?

Can you borrow the money until paypal refund you?

Try loot and preloved etc for second hand goods too.

Are you or any friends/relatives good with technical stuff in the slightest?? You could google how to repair it yourself? My DH often fixes things that way but then he's a geek. It doesn't seem that hard to be honest but I think you need to have a bit of confidence and possibly some tools and bits.

Call some game shops locally to see if any of them have one you could rent? Then could a friend or neighbour either pick it up for you or watch the dc's for you?

Thanks for all ideas.

Weetiger Brighthouse do rental but i don't have a local store. Otherwise that would have been a good idea to try.

bubbleOseven Will cost nearer £400 off a catalogue and i have bad credit due to previous bankruptcy.

SantasENormaSnob I have no one i can borrow money from. No family near by. Sad

LauraMercier Not really confident about trying to repair myself. Will attempt to get disc out later though.

jollyoldstnickschick Contacted PS helpline about the 1st one. They charge £130 for repair/replace!

oh bum, sorry. its such a shame for you. do you not know anyone who has already got one who might lend you it? tbh that was my solution, we dont use ours that much and could certainly live without it until you could have got your new one sorted. shame i cant just pop round with it! hope the day goes well despite the setback and your ds appreciates the thought Xmas Smile
