I went to a Hatha yoga class this week on holiday as it was free and I really liked it even though it was a really easy class and I found it very hard and was shaky in the poses Blush

There are two I can't do - any on the floor on my back or front (curved spine). I can't lie on my back at all, never do.

Teacher recommended 'somatic' or 'yin' yoga.

Tbh if you have a physical problem it's best to go to proper classes. If you cannot lie down at all, then some teachers do seated classes, aimed specifically at people who can't get down on the floor for some reason. My instructor has a class like that but even in her normal classes is very good adapting. In my class there is a lady who is well over 80, she can't do any kneeling or lay on her front but has been given her adaptations to do various moves in a totally different way - such as in a chair or sat on the floor.

I have some back and pelvic problems. I can lay on the floor but some things can cause issues. I have a lovely instructor, who gives adaptations discretely or words it into the instruction (for example "anybody who has disc or vertebrae problems just push to sitting, everyone else do ....." or "if you have no back problems and are feeling strong today, you can try furthering the stretch by doing ....."). There have been moves where I'd have thought it would be fine but her knowledge of her work means she knows that certain moves will put pressure on the wrong joints/parts of the body for me (for one of these moves I'd actually done it at home thing it would be fine for me, and whilst it hadn't hurt at the time, my problem was exacerbated after that video and I hadn't understood why at the time)

Hello. I'm a yoga teacher including Hatha and Yin styles. Yin will not be suitable for you at all as it's aimed at the lower body, knees to hips, and is all lying down really. I'd steer clear of anything online until you know what you are doing. The 'teacher' can't see you, advise you or keep you safe and you are at risk when you inevitably twist your head & neck to try and watch the video while you do the class.

If you can afford it maybe get one private lesson from a local teacher and ask them to write you a suitable home class plan which you can them follow yourself afterwards? Please be careful, yoga is amazing but you need to be safe doing it.
