Going back to full-time employment

I want to go back to full-time work. I am currently part-time and have been since 2003 when my 3rd child was born. What is the best way of putting my request and how likely is it that it will be granted. Anyone else been in this position?

Well I did it! I rang him and after much nervous throat clearing came straight out and asked! He nearly bit my hand off Was so pleased. Had begun to feel a bit irrelevant round the dept recently. Nice to feel valued.

Thanks for your advice hana.

I'd ask to speak to your manager then and just come out and request full time work. you shouldn't be taking home work during the evenings......(unless you're a teacher )

I've had my annual review already hana. Back in April.

I feel as if I have more than enough new work to fill a full-time day but as I've been more or less coping (thanks to my working at home in the evenings , I'm not sure they'll see the point. Manager is sympathetic but he's not the only one I need to convince. He would definitely be my first port of call.

do you have annual reviews? is that coming up? or is your manager sympathetic? I'd raise it informally I think and get a feel for the mood - then take it further
