Can KIT days be longer than normal?

This is purely out of curiosity as I’ve never been able to find the answer anywhere.

I’ve seen a lot of places making it clear that even if you only work a couple of hours on a KIT day, it still counts as a whole day (although you’re unlikely to be paid for a whole day). But what if someone works more hours than normal?

So if someone normally works 9am-5pm but wants to work 9am-9pm on their KIT day, is this allowed? Assuming the employer is happy with it of course.

This is just where I worked - I don't know what the law is.

I used to have to send them to payroll at work and they just went down as a KIT day regardless of hours worked - you'd automatically get paid a day's pay. No one asked how many hours the person was coming in for, though obviously as a manager you'd keep an eye on their wellbeing and made sure they took a break.
