Returning from Maternity Leave to paycut...

Hiya

Hoping someone can offer some advice. Been on maternity leave since June 2019, my team at work are currently under consultancy for redundancy due to coronavirus and the industry I work in is hospitality related so no surprise but hoping I will be ok as one of the longest standing members of the team!

Since I’ve been off my whole team have taken a pay cut, this is in place to last until 31st December.

I can not afford a pay cut as my DD will be in full time nursery, where do I stand with this? As I do not want to make myself more favourable for redundancy...

I should think most people are in a similar position, it's difficult but I suppose you will need to use savings to try to tide you over until December or seek other work. I don't think nursery fees will be classed as exceptional circumstances for you, and no-one else, to remain at your usual salary if the entire company is taking a pay cut. Fingers crossed you can find a solution to manage for the future months. Potentially, you could also speak to your nursery and explain the situation to see if they can offer a repayment package for if/when your normal salary resumes. Good luck.

I think you'd need to find out about this pay cut and how it was agreed. Does it definitely apply to you, is it company wide etc.

The pay cut might be the reason the business is still going so you could be cutting off your nose to spite your face by fighting it is one school of thought. Can't be easy though.
