I've seen a job advertised that offers a lot more money and is more related to what I am qualified to do. Sounds great, but the problem is I love the company I work for, the people are great and they are very flexible. The job itself is okay but I do get a bit bored sometimes. Just don't know what to do. Feel like I would be letting everyone at work down if I was to leave, but the extra money would make life so much easier. Any advice would be appreciated. I am scared to make the move in case I hate the other job.

I did just that 5 years ago. I'd been with my previous employer for 9 years, it was my first job out of university, and I'd grown up there from a really junior position to one of quite alot of responsibility. I saw a job advertised in another company that you never really see advertised, they usually recruit internally. This company are top of the field, and to work with them is really prestigous (sorry, sp?) No more money was offered, and the hours were horrendous but I went for it because in career terms it was a huge step up. I felt terribly guilty leaving my old company, as they had taught me everything I knew, but I felt I'd gone as far as I could in that job and had outgrown the company. I was offered the job and took it, which was a real wrench, leaving my friends and a fantastic social life that went with the job. My first year in my new job was awful to be honest, it's a huge company and I knew no-one. I felt like a tiny cog in a huge machine, but five years on I love it. The challenges are huge, it's incredibly rewarding, I've travelled the world and done things I would never have got to do with my former employer. So I think really it depends if you're thinking more long term, it may be a real wrench leaving somewhere you really like, but in the long run it might be the best thing you ever do. I hope that helps, good luck xx

Another thought, could you have a discussion with your boss, explain that you need more of a challenge. Whilst you are at it, put a case forward for deserving more pay (be prepared, work on it beforehand). You never know until you ask.

Are you ready for a fresh challenge, do you think it would be more interesting?

If so, then take a chance. You never know until you start a new job but if its awful you just have to think that its been bad luck and move on again. At least if you don't like it you can spend the extra money and enjoy it.

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea, may not even get an interview then I don't need to make a decision I guess.

It will be almost impossible to make a judgement until you have at least been for an interview so you can get a feel for the job and company. Good Luck.
