Facebook friends with work colleagues

Hello wondered about people's views in relation to being Facebook friends with work colleagues? I did used to be but recently I have closed one account and opened another just with friends and family on. The reason being that I am getting married to an ex colleague in September and the team we used to work in are finding things out on fb we don't want them to know! Makes this a bit awkward as none of them are invited but seem to think there getting invites!

I only have colleagues from places I no longer work at as FB friends, even though the place I work at now is small, very relaxed, we are all very friendly and Ihave my privacy settings finely tuned. However I can see it would be tricky if everyone else is friends. To be honest, the best way to go is not to post anything unless you're happy for the whole world to see it, so maybe less wedding chat is the way to go.

No. I purposely am not friends with them (apart from, randomly, our uber boss who friended me). For me work is work. Outside of work is my life.

This. Apart from the boss.

I think having a deprecate scout is a good idea...I use privacy settings but don't trust them 100%

My work colleagues use FB to arrange meals out etc...those not on FB don't get invited and I don't want to be left out Grin so I would not have colleagues as FB friends.

Nope, no current colleagues on FB ever.

Don't do it. I have one current colleague, who genuinely is a friend, on my FB. I'm very careful not to post anything about work on FB, or anything that would reflect very negatively on me if seen.

Yes, you can control your privacy settings but only to a degree - second hand likes or people passing things on can happen.

I've had several friend requests from people at work on FB and I always turn them down, saying I'm very happy to connect with them on LinkedIn.

No colleagues on my Facebook. I keep it purely for my personal life and use LinkedIn for work. Twitter is a bit of an in between I don't share personal info on it so doesn't bother me if people see me feed.

I don't have colleagues, work contacts, or customers as fb friends. Its my personal life and I like a line between the two

I only have those I'd choose to spend time with - pub or going for lunch. People I consider "work friends" not just colleagues.

Hi,

I have my old colleagues on FB as it is nice to keep up to date with them (I had worked there a long time). I did have my current colleagues on but I deleted them as I felt 'uncomfortable' having them on there. I see them at work a lot anyway! They are blocked so think I am off FB altogether!

I have work colleagues on Facebook but I've created a list of all of them and only choose to share certain things with that list.

Only a couple of my FB friends are colleagues, and they are genuine friends. Other work colleagues are kept on LinkedIn. If I get a friend request from work I just leave it, I don't accept it. If I am asked why I haven't accepted a friend request, I just explain that we are workmates, not friends, and I am happy to accept a LinkedIn request. I can't be bothered to gaff about with privacy settings, but that might get you round your current issue.

I use facebook for friends and Linkedin for professional contacts.

You need to get to know your privacy settings - it's perfectly possible to be FB friends with someone but hide your posts from them.

Most people on my FB are work colleagues. Some are good friends other randoms. I filter and hide stuff depending on who they are.
