giving notice at work - working yr notice/annual leave

about to take the plunge and resign. As I'm on 3mths notice will have an uncomfortable time ahead with boss, aside from that wondering about finances - can I tag a/l on to end of notice period or sd I take all accrued wihtin notice period?
Anything else I should be wary of? Stupid question I know, but if I'm on 3 mths notice, they can't suddenly give me notice to leave sooner if they find a replacement in time can they ? all right, can already predict the answer but have been caught out like this before and was too relieved to move on, anxious about future ref to actually push back on this.

They can ask you to leave sooner but they'll have to pay you the rest of your notice
