Is it law 'if you take a new job the company should honour you existing booked holidays?'

Clarkent I'm sure your right, dh is well known and liked in the company. new boss (only 8mths with the company) is making sure that dh knows he is 'only' an ARD and he is the Regional director.

Do the companies share a HR department.

If the answer to either is yeshe should be entitled to go.

There is certainly no law about it. The new manager is being tough, showing who is boss. As it is all the same company, a word with HR might help.

As holiday allowances only start when you start a new job then I don't think that it is particularly reasonable to expect to take holidays that you have arranged with a previous employer unless you have expressly agreed this when accepting the new job. Conversely if you have come to an understanding with the new employer then it is unfair for them to then say no. But then this would be true for any booked holiday, I guess, it is at the employers discretion - I'm fairly sure that the only right that the employee has is for the holiday time, not when it is taken.

Am so fed up in 3 weeks we were supposed to be going away for 2 weeks (we haven't in 11 years together been away for 2 weeks and we haven't had a weeks holiday for 4 years) and they have just got around to telling dh he can't have the time as the guy above him is away then and has 'pulled rank'

I'm pretty certain that it isn't the law, but most companies tend to agree at interview especially at this time of year. Sorry that they haven't for your husband

no unfortunately i don't think it's law. at interview you can ask for it to be considered if you were to get the job but the company aren't obliged to honour it, that would just be goodwill.

In fact if you haven't told them about it at interview, then I think you can get into trouble too - but hopefully I'm wrong about that
