help needed - application to return part time

when I return from maternity leave I want to go back part time. I have apparently to put it in writing like a business case stating what pattern I would like to apply for and what benefit if any it could bring to the business and also how I plan to manage the workload on the chosen pattern of work and how I plan to make it fir around my duties.

Helsi, what do you do (roughly) and would they employ someone alongside you? Just, it's easier to write once you now these things (for example, if I wanted to do this in my last job I would say that bringing in a person on job share would allow them to select somebody with complimentary skills to mine, such as someone with administrative experience which would free me to specialise also and result in excellency across the working spectrum.

having said that, when I did this letter for myslef, I just wrote that I was applying to work part time, that I was prepared to consider either X or X patterns to suit their preference and that I felt that the workload could be balnced by doing X. I also mentioned that of course I was perpared to be flexible within reason.

I have ben mulling over tlaking to him on my return from sick about closer working between mine and another lady's team so might see how that goes yet.

Found an old post on this subject and I think the advice is still relevant so here it is:
I would strongly recommend that any request be as 'flexibly' worded as possible. In other words don't just give an out line of what you want - say what your objective is and then put forward one option for achieving the objective and state that you are happy to consider other options that allow you to meet your objective if the one you have put forward is not acceptable for business reasons. That way, if they turn down your first choice, you don't have to wait another year to put forward another option for flexible working.

When I did this I found a standard letter on a government website that I wrote and just adjusted with my details. Really sorry I can't remember what website (2 years ago now), but it was one of the first times I had used the internet so it couldn't have been too hard to find on google!! I think maybe something like the Maternity Alliance website? Good luck !!
