We have been very moved by a request from the Octavia Appeal at the Brompton Hospital. The Brompton Hospital is a specialist heart and lung centre in London complete with the second largest paediatric intensive care unit in the country. This unit takes the sickest babies and children from all over, some transferred immediately after birth, others have become too sick to be cared for at other major hospitals and most are already on life support when they arrive. These babies and children are incredibly sick, and very sadly not all survive. The Octavia Appeal have approached us and asked if we are able to make blankets for these babies who have very sadly passed away.

We are looking for crafters and donors to help make this possible. At an intensely bleak and dark time there is still something very positive that we can do for the baby and their family. Our blankets are always handmade with love and compassion and so are perfect. We can help care for the whole family at this time by making the baby comfortable and snuggled up whilst sending love and a hug to the parents.

We know that we have many crafters and donors who have first hand experience of such devastating loss. We understand that this is a very difficult request, but if you can join with us, and are able to help, then we would love to have you on board. From speaking to some of you, we know how incredibly important blankets like these are to those who receive them.

Thanks Thanks Thanks

Like Little Hugs, Angel Hugs will be an ongoing project and the two will run alongside each other.

To our lovely crafters Thanks

  • Angel Hugs are to be all white and can be knitted or crocheted in any wool suitable for a baby blanket, so 4ply, DK, just as long as it feels soft and cosy. The design is up to you, but it should be kept simple. Angel Hugs can also be sewn using pure cotton and good quality fleece, again white please and in a simple design.

  • Minimum size : 24 inches square, going up to a maximum of approx. 30 inches square.

  • If making a whole Angel Hug feels too much, but you would still like to support this, we would be pleased to accept simple knitted and crocheted 6 inch squares, which we will hook together. If choosing this option, please use Stylecraft Special DK in white.

  • If you would like to take part in this project but feel you can't due to the costs involved, please PM me and we'll try to help you with materials.

    To our lovely Donors Thanks

We would be very grateful for support from anyone who would like to donate funds to help with this. You can either donate via Paypal admin@ woollyhugs.com but please add a message so we know who to thank and which project it is for. If you don't have Paypal, please PM me as we have other ways that you can donate. We are so grateful to all our donors, without you, these projects could not function. Thanks

Knotty is here to help with any questions, and please PM me if you'd like to and are able to join us with this.

It is a very sad request we are making, and yet there is something very positive here too, and we know the Blanketeers have big hearts.

Sometimes thank you doesn't seem enough, but thank you once again Xx

    Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

Celebrating the start of #VolunteersWeek with the most enormous THANK YOU to our wonderful Woolly Hugs crew, crafters and donors alike.

Every stitch, every moment, every penny given freely, ordinary people doing extraordinary things, proving one person can make a difference, and bless you all for it. So many children and their families feel love, support, comfort, kindness and compassion through your overwhelming generosity.

Loved and looked after. To all our amazing volunteers who make it all possible THANK YOU!! xxx

Thanks Zing - I'm disproportionately proud of it Blush

But what with school cake sale today and going away for the weekend tomorrow I haven't edged it or blocked it so it won't be on time.

Watch this space though!

To me that sounds the right size MrsH and I can imagine it looks pretty too.
(One of the Little Hugs I made once was 17.5" square instead 18", tell nobody but I got away with that! Wink )

Hmm. Mine might make the deadline. I know you've said 24" square but it's a five-pointed star (afghan) so I'm not quite sure when to stop. Each point is twelve inches from the centre at the moment and I've plenty of yarn still on the ball.

Thoughts?

Is there a last posting day coming up this weekend or is a send as and when type project, please?

(I made part of a square in DB Rialto before I had this feeling 6" squares need to be Stylecraft....doh)

Today is International Baby and Pregnancy loss Awareness Day.

Every year on this day candles are lit across the globe to remember all the babies that have died during pregnancy, at, during or after birth. We will be joining this later on, and go further, we light ours to remember all children lost.

The aim is to create a 24 hour wave of light across the world. If you can, please light a candle at 7pm where you are and let it burn for an hour. Then we will have a whole day with candles burning in memory of all the children gone too soon, always loved, and always missed. xxx

With the summer holidays looming we're thinking it's wise to ask for a Pause in Posting to us between July 22nd and Sept 1st, as with holidays and trips out etc, neither of us can guarantee there will be anyone able to take woolly treasures in, nor will we necessarily be able to acknowledge safe arrivals and say thank you. And we'd rather treasure stays with you, than gets stranded in the sorting office.

We hope this is OK. Thank you so much everyone. Thanks

Not insensitive at all lovely, the Brompton play it all very close, but we need to be practical iyswim?

We are going to do a special thank you for the response to our rally. We were worried we weren't going to have enough for this collection, we have been blessed with so many more. Having committed to the Brompton, we can't bear to think of any family who needs having to go without now.

Huge hugs M, you are fabulous Thanks xx

Sorry Sad I didn't mean to be insensitive. Was just thinking about how you'd been short for this collection and then people had rallied to send them in. I knew lots had been sent in since you appealed...

Morning Brew Thanks

Not sure in total, but we send 25 every four months, that's approx what they need Sad Although they really don't like to talk about numbers publicly of course, for them it needs to be all about hope.

We don't send more than that as for them it is storage, but they can always call on us. So we are so grateful to have enough for at least the next two if not three deliveries. We also do like to have some in case folk on here ask for one for someone away from our Brompton project.

We are so grateful to everyone, can't really say how much tbh Thanks
