Is Ed a full time woman now then?

Last I heard he was picking and choosing at his convenience.

‘one woman show’ more exciting than one-man show perhaps.

Regardless of whomever Eddie is today, I’d like to shake the hand of the person who stuck a “Woman: adult human female” sticker over his/her/thems face on the poster for this on the Tube.

Someone put EI's poster right next to a Mrs Doubtfire poster, I really hope it was done on purpose.

Noone is forced to do anything.

The existence of transwomen doesn't "erase" women (whatever that actually means, I'd heard it a lot).

"the hell yes this is of concern to me and the hell yes this is my business!"

You'll also find a lot of women, particularly from the younger generations, really don't care what Izzard identifies as and have other things to think about.

@MerlinsLostMarbles your mansplaining is so predictable. To quote Meghan Trainor, 'no-one's listenin'

If transwomen and their supporters are not trying to erase women, then can you explain why vast resources have gone into rewriting and designing scores of pages of literature, books, websites, products, services and spaces that mention the words "women" or "mother"?

Weird.

Yes, @MerlinsLostMarbles - any answers?

Of course the mantra "transwomen are women" erases actual women.
That's the entire point of the ideology.

If Eizard wants to identify as a transwoman they can eat their heart out, go bananas, be fabulous. No one would bat an eyelid.

But he doesn't does they. They wants to insist we (women) change who we are instead.

We're "people with ovaries, people with a cervix or pregnant people now. Something they can never be.

Comprehension not your strong point?

If womanhood is defined as a state of mind, which it has to be to accept Izzard is a women, that definition is forced onto me unless I stop defining myself as a woman.

Izzard's choice forces me into one of l two options neither of which I would willingly have chosen for myself.

And of course younger people have other things to think about right now, and good luck to them. There's plenty of real life shit that doesn't hit the young. Doesn't mean it's not real, or that it doesn't matter.

Because when a male person claims they are a woman and society accepts this, it forces all women - or rather, all people who previously believed themselves to be women because of their adult female bodies - to chose between keeping the name woman and accepting they are now labelled as having a specific type of mind rather than a specific type of body, or rejecting the name woman, retain the right to have whatever type of mind they have in their female body, but lose the right to all the "women-only" provisions and rights that were created for their sex but have been usurped by this redefinition of womanhood to include the male sex.

So as a female bodied person who neither wants to be relegated to the female-minded nor to lose her sex-based rights, the hell yes this is of concern to me and the hell yes this is my business!

Quite the ratio! As pp pointed out, this could simply be described as a solo show or one-hander. The Guardian has deliberately chosen to promote this as a 'one woman show' but clearly very few people are having it.

Quite the ratio indeed!

FlirtsWithRhinos says it very well, but here's another explanation for why we care, for those who don't understand.

Imagine if Eddie Izzard said he identified as a black American. And then the Guardian wrote a review of his show making several references to the fact that he was a black American. It's offensive for two reasons.

One is that it's a newspaper deliberately and blatantly lying to its readers, when the job of newspapers is to report the truth.

The other is that it's insulting to people who are genuinely black Americans, because it says that their rich and unique identity, which has been forged out of several hundred years of slavery, lynching, Jim Crow laws and discrimination, is so meaningless that it can be casually adopted by a white British person.

What other people identify as or who they like to sleep with is of no concern to me.

Just wondering why other people consider it their business?
