Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

They silenced Joan Collins

On Piers Morgan Uncensored, Joan Collins was asked what a woman is and she said she can’t answer that question, she doesn’t want to get cancelled by the trans community.

Ouch. When you’ve cowed one of the most famous, beloved women in the world into silence, is it time to fess up that gender ideology does actually oppress women and compromise their ability to talk about their own bodies?

Because, as we heard in the tribunal yesterday, everybody is petrified of being called 'transphobic'.

This. Sadly the accusations of transphobia for expressing what the majority of the country knows and understands about biological sex appear to be rife among the teens and twenty-somethings of my acquaintance. It's like they can't engage their brains with actual reality lest they be called transphobic by their peers.

I'm so tired of this.

How much longer can it go on?

I know precise nobody in real life who agrees with TRA dogma, so why does it have such a grip?

My mood today too. I am sick of it.

I’d never really had her pegged as a feminist icon until she got together with Percy. Asked by some interviewer or other
‘But Joan, what about the age gap?’ she replied with a shrug
‘If he dies, he dies’.
Total Legend.

LOL. 😂 Thanks for sharing that.

Hasn’t she got a Jubilee coming up? Sorry wrong Queen.

Life will feel different without either.

Traliban - love that. Needs a hashtag on Twatter.

But surely she gave her answer by saying that if she spoke accurately, she'd be cancelled. Joan Collins is a wise old fox ❤

I came here to say this

She has played it very clever 👏

She's amazing, and agree she got the point across excellently. Her women's hour interview is brilliant. She is a strong women and always fought against sexism in the industry.

I don't blame her, at get age it's not her fight.

Had I been her I would have probably gone with.

"I can't be seen to speak for anyone else other than myself you understand Piers, but...(hand flourish both sides up and down torso area) this...this Piers is a woman".

Would that have worked in keeping everyone happy? Or rather could anyone have been offended if she'd done that?

Neatly done, Dame Joan. What a Queen she is [heart eyes]

Never thought I'd ever be quoting Ronan Keating but as he said - you say it best when you say nothing at all.
Not only did Dame Joan get across what a woman is but she also spelled out the danger for a woman, even one as famous as her, of getting on the wrong side of TRAs.

No, I can’t blame her for wanting to take that on at 89.

Thanks WandaWomblesaurus for the Audible recommendation!

Well done Joan. Very nicely done.

Does she live in the US? It's bad here but it's definitely worse over there in terms of women not being able to speak freely. Celebrities and people in positions of power seem much more frightened to speak out over there.

You've only got to see all the crap about 'birthing bodies' or whatever when talking about abortion. Which as a descriptor instead of 'women' would have been very painful for me when going through infertility - but obviously infertile women don't matter only transfolks of a certain sex (not the female one). It makes me laugh how 'inclusivity' is only ever to males. I bet there are far more women who've suffered infertility to whom 'birthing bodies' would be triggering than there are transpeople to whom 'women' is triggering or offensive in the context of talking about biology. But obviously women's feelings don't matter.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the extent to which women are silenced by the traliban and the extent to which their rights are being rolled back goes hand in hand. If you can't describe women as a sex class it makes it much more difficult to fight against abortion bans.

Very clever answer, makes the main point which is the vicious aggressive misogyny behind the trans ideology. Which no woman is safe from.

It's like Mcarthyism all over again.

"Transphobe!" is the new "Communist!"

Good point. It really is.

She doesn't want to take it on. How old is she, late 70s or more? I can't really blame her.

She's 89! I'm really disappointed in her.

She got her point across whilst also highlighting the bullying cancel culture driven by TRAs , which is just as important as highlighting the biological facts, without providing them any sound bites for their bandwagon.
I thought it was a very astute way of answering.

Doesn't that imply that what she actually thinks would get her cancelled so she's just not saying it? Sad she gives a fuck but seems to me she knows what a woman is

She doesn’t give a fuck…saying less is saying more….she completely got her point across without getting any aggro….clever lady

They shouldn't need to, you are right.

But we aren't dealing with what we shouldn't have to do. We're dealing with the current state of things and it's important that as many people as possible draw attention to the ridiculousness of it.

She also went on to answer the question, "What is a woman?" by saying, "me" and pointing to (presumably) people off camera. Then she said, "There are lots of us."

Did she? Hahahah LOVE HER. What a QUEEN.

I love Joan. She said she was horrified when she hit puberty and tried to hide her burgeoning body under baggy jumpers and go to the football with her dad. Then realised the power of a woman and embraced her assets.
