Artist 'FKA twigs' sues Shia LaBoeuf for domestic abuse

Reported in the New York Times, she describes a depressingly familiar pattern of abuse, which she kept quiet for a long time 'to protect his career', and from fear that she would not be believed. Her account is heartbreaking- she is incredibly brave to come forward. Any damages awarded will be donated to women's charities fighting domestic abuse.

I’m doing some reading around all of this, and I’m noticing the contrast between Shia LeBeouf’s traumatic childhood and subsequent abusive behaviour towards other’s and Sir Patrick Stewart who I believe suffered similar and has been nothing but a champion of and advocate for domestics abuse victims his entirely life.

What is the X factor here that produces such a massively different outcome?

@dervel that's an interesting point actually. I can think of 2 separate sets of brothers who grew up in households where the mum was physically abused by the dad. 3 out of 4 went on to be abusive to their gfs. 1 of the brothers went the complete opposite direction and actually went out with women who used and abused him. I recall one stomped on his head wearing heels and he took her back in a grovelling manner. In terms of abuse against children a few people I grew up with including myself experienced a range of mild to a bit more demented abuse and none of us are abusers thank god but we definitely all have dealt with alcohol abuse, problems maintaining relationships, anxiety and depression. A few of us have been in abusive relationships probably because of low self esteem issues and feeling that's what we deserved.

I recall me and my siblings as young adults confronting our parents about how they treated us and vowing never to hit our kids and they laughed mockingly as though we had no clue but guess what - none of us hit children! It's bloody unnecessary.

I'm very glad FKA chose to speak up. I hope it is as empowering and healing for her as it will be for women watching.

Yes, wasn't Shia the worst celeb to be labelled "woke"? I am almost 100% certain that I first heard the term woke in relation to him.

Twigs has done an interview on this subject in Elle magazine. I think she's incredibly brave to speak out like this. That's real bravery.

Love FKA Twigs, amazingly talented.

Shia Le Beuof is just an embarrassing joke (albeit a dangerous one) He had sex with a woman during one of his "art" installations and tried to sue her for raping him.
