Civil Service annual survey

A TERFy civil servant friend mailed me today to say the annual People Survey asked for sex 'registered at birth' and then a separate question on gender identity.

Encouraging in itself, but wondering if this is new - does anyone know? I've tried to search for last year's questions, and certainly the results for 2018 talked about transgender and cisgender, but the actual questions don't seem to be available online. My friend only peaked this year and can't remember.

I'm pretty sure this is new this year

There was another shortish thread on this called ‘tiny wins’ but I can’t find it. It’s definitely an improvement on last year which just asked for ‘gender’ (I complained in the free text box and it looks as if a few others in other civil service orgs must have done too). This year I used the gender text box to point out not everyone has a ‘gender identity’ especially as there is no stable non-sexist definition of one. On the assumption I am on a winning streak, this year’s general ‘what can we do better?’ free text box got ‘ditch Stonewall’. Here’s hoping there are enough of those to make the Cabinet Office think about whether its values include respect for protected characteristics.

I think it changed last year - I think there was originally a single question on 'gender', about which there was a kerfuffle and it then changed to two questions.

It is a good workaround. What I like most is 'registered' rather than 'assigned'.

Maybe someone is paying attention at last.

I don't know re civil service, but I've been paying attention to all sorts of surveys and this sort of wording and division of the question I'm seeing more of in the second half of this year. It seems a good workaround.
