Isn‘t that something Lisa Muggeridge (spelling?) talked about repeatedly? How all their fancy guidlines must meet a brick wall, once the ,lower level‘ institutions tasked with safe guarding must weigh the actual risks ,on the ground’...

Fantastic news and a great first step. Kudos to the teenage girl and Safe Schools Alliance for highlighting this. I noticed my LA on the list of contributors to the Toolkit so I will be following this up and letting them know the outcome for Oxfordshire.

Female could you post it here so others can follow up. We will put something out next week (have something else going in right now!) but if people can start contacting their LEAs that would be great.

Don't know if this has already been posted elsewhere but SSA have just announced that Shopshire have withdrawn their toolkit too!

They're saying they're waiting for the EHRC updated guidance?

Seems like that is the advice they've been given.

The new guidance will be ^very* interesting indeed. And now under national scrutiny.

EHRC are boxed in. If they try reissuing the trans guidance they will find themselves in court and likely to lose. I wonder what they'll do?

Keep stalling and delaying? I wonder how long they can do that for....is there anything in their legal status that could allow their hand to be forced?

And if they amend it to be more reasonable they'll be swarmed by angry TRAs. They could have avoided this by not issuing stupid and illegal guidelines in the first place (it's always harder to row back bad policies than to avoid making them in the first place).

Safe schools have resources to help you challenge your own LA. Here: twitter.com/SafeSchools_UK/status/1263449405090344960

Please use them and let us know how you get on.

The pressure on EHRC now is immense & they must know that any flimsy claims or blatant disregard for girls' rights & protections are ripe for legal challenge, over the whole of the UK. The scotgov trans school guide is also inexplicably delayed, while they too await the EHRC guidance.

It'll be interesting to see who blinks first.

If they do attempt to double down on their position what's the next step from there, legally speaking?

Report
Apollo440 · 22/05/2020 11:54

The EHRC is fucked. They can't blindly continue misrepresenting the Equalities Act now without a huge outcry and more importantly a legal challenge. The government isn't even onside now. What they thought were cheap woke points is now a now a massive turd. The only thing they can do is back down.

It has to be a legal challenge & incorporate all corners of the U.K. as all corners are seemingly deferring to the EHRC school guide as the basis of policies following the dropped guides in various LAs.

I'm sure there will be co-ordination on a response once it's finally published.

Denbighshire have withdrawn this morning.

I think the list is

  1. Oxfordshire
  2. Warwickshire
  3. Shropshire
  4. Barnsley
  5. Kent
  6. Doncaster
  7. Denbighshire

Well done to all parents and Safer Schools Alliance and the brave lass who stood up for her sisters.

There were 10 acknowledged in the original Mordor script and I believe all have had emails from parents.

Others have variations on a theme and I believe some are quietly withdrawing and adopting a wait and see approach.

Mordor, as one would expect is holding firm and hissing.

I agree. (And with WTF.) They are going to look so incredibly stupid if the guidance they issue is in line with the Oxfordshire/Warwickshire/Brighton etc toolkits. They know that people are watching them. They know there is a group of parents prepared to mount a legal challenge. They know that the government, in the form of Liz Truss, has very firmly said that single-sex spaces must be protected. I'm not one to count my chickens, but I think we've won. But I am very curious to see what they come up with instead - or if they try and get away with not coming up with anything at all.
