Feminist (or at least not anti-fem) pop playlist for the car - suggestions please?

I'm trying to put together a playlist I can put on in the car as I'm sick of the radio playing stuff I don't really want my kids listening to, all the raunch etc. Rhianna's become a bit of a whipping girl for the issue (pun intended) but that's the kind of thing, you know what I mean.

I'm looking for stuff that's a bit more contemporary than "Sisters are doing it for themselves", but so far I have Destiny's Child "Independent Women" and Pink's "Stupid Girl" (and I'm not sure about that as it's still pretty negative towards women, in its own way). It doesn't have to be stuff with a 'message', just songs that share a positive view of women/men/people in general. None of that "I had to fold her like a pornography poster" rubbish.

This isn't quite the right section of the board for this but I can't find anywhere more suited... Any thoughts?

Hmm. I fear attempts at a playlist are well intentioned, but doomed. Unless your children are unusually unopinionated. I have one daughter who will only listen to classical music and one who is mad about Justin Bieber. I don't like either.

I agree re. unwanted raunch etc, but I think there are other things you can more usefully do to reduce your children's exposure to it. Mine are remarkably unaware of the existence of Rhianna, X Factor, vacuous slebs and so on - but that's largey because I don't have the stuff on TV, and the only magazines/newspapers we have in the house are broadsheets and the Beano. I think my own attitude towards myself (as an individual and as a woman) also have a far greater effect on them than the odd annoying and sexist song lyric. I have endless confidence in my own general brilliance and ability to do/cope with everything without worrying about what I'm wearing or what I look like or what I'm eating, and I am sure that has a huge impact on my daughters' views without me even having to say anything.
