As claimed by one of the Alice's in one of the other threads?

Oh. Oh. I am insanely happy to see this subject being taken seriously Chickens are marvellous feminists. They can live in a harmonious matriarchal society and lay tasty breakfast treats without requiring any arrogant cock strutting about the place acting all entitled

Alice, we used to call our Spanish chickens Compañera 1, Compañera 2 and Compañera 3
and they didn't object. So you could always address your chickens as 'Comrades' & see what they think of it.
(I did threaten to post up in the run egg-production targets, but never got that far.)

My Late Hen (the Lovely Lily) was obsessed with the laundry. I'd be pegging out the socks, she'd be pecking the bag the socks were in. And making disapproving clucking noises - I never knew whether her objection was to do with my pegging technique or the fact I was pegging at all. Was she conforming to gender stereoptypes or was she telling me to shrug off the shackles of domestic servitude? Sadly, she pegged it herself before I could find out.

(As an aside, she was given a Good Christian Burial under the raspberry canes. And I have never had a better raspberry crop).

HereBeBolloxs, you tell that to the chicken I rescued from becoming a Tesco Value nugget... she doesn't think it's insane.

I'm sorry, but LRD are you here from Coops Need Cocks? Because you sound like a great, big rooster apologist... Hmm

And as for the rest of you, don't you go thinking I have noticed you haven't talked about what I WANT! You are mean, all of you.

FGS why are you even discussing this anyway? It's clucking insane

ChristinedePizan - I can do but 'good morning hens' sounds a bit weird compared to 'good morning ladies or girls'.

I am chickenist ... just not one of you crazy radical chickenists who don't realize chickens deserve what they get.

Ohhh, come on... You keep treating your hen like that, it's only a matter of time until you see her on the shelf in Tescos.

1 in 4 chickens turns into a bag of Tesco Value nuggets. I sure as hell don't want it to be my chicken

If you want to explore the subject without a chickenist agenda I suggest you read "Legalizing Cocksandry" by R. Ooster.

I am way to think to join in the banter but BOF, I likey your post. And concur, chickens and hens in particular very symbolic of women in society.

You don't see the submissive side to it as you've been raised to believe it's normal. I suggest you read C. Hicken's "Why Does He Eat That?". It'll shed some light onto your bullying ways, and unneccessary torture of your poor hen. Failing that, watch Kill It, Cook It, Eat It. Is that really what you want for Henrietta?

Ah, now we really are getting to the crux of the matter CIM (chicken in mouth).

If you have to ask that, Frothy, I think you're in an abusive relationship with your chicken - or maybe you had a fowl experience in the past.

My chickens enjoy being eaten, there's nothing submissive about it.

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 27/08/2011 18:19

But do you have these chickens' permission to eat them, LRD Hmm Or do you just see them as pieces of meat?

LRDTheFeministDragon · 27/08/2011 17:48

You're all frigid chicken-haters.

I love chicken and eat an enormous quantity of it every day, for I am very skilled in the many and various arts of chicken-eating. I can tell you about it in graphic terms if you'd like, to distract you from this ridiculous chickens-rights crap?

well, it's a good point, that the Cock is always the top of the pecking order.
Sometimes he has to fight for it. I belong to a chicken-keeping forum, and i have read stories there about how a long-standing top hen has stood up to the new Cock and fought for the top spot (in one instance she won)

but hen, in contrast to that, think about how the make chicken is ignored in chicken society in general.
It's always advised never to have more than one per 3 hens.
Most baby make chickens are killed at birth just for beign male - they're no good for layign eggs, nor for food production. (you get more meat from a female)

so, basically, unless the person hatching your egg wants to breed from you, you've not even got a chance of living if you're a male bird.

Alice - so in essence the hens are rejecting the poultriarchy.

Report
ChristinedePizan · 27/08/2011 17:29

Alice - can't you just call your chickens hens?

Just remembered my interesting fact, chickens can reject the sperm of the cockerel. They hold it in them for a bit, but can squirt it back out should they not like the cockerel it came from!

I have a cockerel and one hen. He is definitely a misogynist and she definitely lays all the eggs.
