What we're reading

New topic under books (suggestion) "I've just finished....."

Hi, I looked to see if books had a subsection where you could post reactions to what you happen to have just read either adding to existing discussion or starting a new one if you are the first.

The idea is sort of the opposite of a book club because you read your own thing then look to see who else has read/thought about it.

It wouldn't necessarily be a blockbuster. But after a little while the favourites would get covered so you could look and find the Wolf Hall thread (as that would get started quite quickly) and the Mayor of Casterbridge thread would appear quite quickly but you (I!) might be the only poster on the Morrissey Autobiography thread for a bit longer.

Does anyone like the idea? Tastes are so varied nowadays it's less likely that eal life friends will read the same stuff as you do.

If someone started a second thread on the same book by accident the mumsnet team could merge them.

Fingers crossed.

Hello

We've had a think but can't quite see how this would be different from other threads in the Fiction topic - that is, lots of posters start threads along the lines of 'I've just read this and I think it was...'

So we're not sure we can see the rationale for a new topic? But please fill us in if we're being more than usually dim.

Hi Helen,

Not sure what kind of thread you mean?

Hi all,
We will pass this on to the powers that be. In the meantime, what about starting a thread and seeing how popular that is?

Gave ourselves lots of time to read!

Oops

I used to be in a small book group but we decided together what to read and have ourselves lots of time to read too. There was also the guarantee of not having a difficult list of questions to discuss!

I think this is a good idea.

I've just got back into reading after a dry spell and I'd like to be able to discuss books, hear others opinions.

"I've nearly finished" would be ok too.

Agree about book clubs. I think they are the wrong way round IYSWIM

Haha! I've nearly finished a book I meant to read about 10 years ago! It'd be nice to chat when I finally finish it!!!!
I haven't joined a book group as I don't fancy reading to a deadline and having to go out and buy a book someone else tells me to read.

Good idea! I am not a member of a book group but it would be good to hear what others thought about a book I've read.
