G2 storm in progress according to Spaceweather, although Aurorawatch is not showing much - Photo from Skye already posted on the Aurorawatch Flickr group...

Thanks Gloria, I've just signed up. Not sure there's anything doing tonight sadly. I'm absolutely desperate to see them, went to Iceland last year and missed a spectacular display by 12 hours apparently. Sad

Fingers crossed they'll come again soon!

There's also the spaceweather website and some more aurora pictures here.

Some fabulous pictures here. I didn't realise they could be seen as far south as Gloucestershire. Am very Envy of those that saw/have seen them.

ghost You can sign up for an Aurora alert here.

OYBBK - They didn't appear here either - I so want to see them.

Bugger, I didn't know about this - people not far from here saw them last night apparently. Is there likely to be more activity tonight, does anyone know?

Sadly not visible quite far this south. One day I will see them.

Donki, DD has been warned that she may be woken randomly and chuked in the car, for an aurora adventure Grin

We see them here in Northern Canada quite a lot. I posted on another thread that the locals are quite blasé about them. Not looking good here tonight (7 hours behind). It's -32 with the wind chill and we have extensive cloud cover. We did get quite a good display last week though.

And my husband was out on the tiles, so I couldn't leave DS to go and look :(

Sighting from about 5 miles away - but I couldn't see it because of street lights...

I'm jealous as well. No sight of them here in South Yorkshire as there is too much light pollution.

We should have been in Northumberland this week where we might have seen it, but DD has been poorly so we stayed at home Sad

My FB is full of my North East Scotland and Moray coast friends all excited because of the Northern Lights Tonight.

Really jealous to not be there to see them.

I think that I have your grumps now perihelion - I have no chance of seeing them with all the lights round here.

Some cloud in the way now, NE direction. Am right near the Forth, so not much streetlighting past my house. Amber alert on Aurorawatch now.
Remember to check the whole sky. Aurora can sometimes be overhead, not always North.
Think the last good show I saw was an X30, which came a day or so after another huge flare. The Aurorawatch graph for that event had red columns off the scale all over the place.

No longer grumpy Grin
Thankyou weather fairy for being clear and no Moon Wink

Perihelion it was an X4.9 flare - but not Earth directed. This is just a glancing blow!

I'm Jealous Perihelion!
Stuck on the outskirts of Leeds with DS in bed so I can't even drive north to get out from the light pollution as DH is out.
