Give half to your little one and make easy gaucomole with the other half.
Avocado
tomato deseeded
quarter of an onion
squeeze lemon juice
Whizz together and have with chilli, tortilla chips or in a sandwich with meat.

To keep fresh, do what Prettycandles says - and keep the stone in the unused portion. Dunno why but it helps.

Lol Mala, I've lived a sheltered life ha! Tried a bit, felt strange but not sure if I like the texture? May try it on a bacon sarny next time but DS loved it, mashed it with banana and he half on both days. Thanks all x

I used to give DS avocado mashed together with pureed apple and mixed with baby rice/water. He loved it. Since he's been a bit older I have mashed it with banana, and as the others say it's been a big hit. I hadn't tried avocado myself either (or sweet potato, or butternut squash ).

BigHotMama - how on earth have you managed to avoid trying avocado till now?
I couldn't live without them. DD1 3.5 yo loves them too, they make a great lazymother supper for her along with chunks of cheese, tomato and bread...and they're very healthy!

You can halve the avocado and scoop it straight out of the peel and into the LO's mouth, no need to mash.

To keep the unused portion, brush it with lemon juice and wrap tightly in clingfilm, with the film touching the avocado (ie exclude as much air as poss) and store in the fridge.

Avocado very popular with all the pretty candles (and their mummy, too).

Spread on rice cakes or toast. We mainly give it in chunks.

I don't eat it either but my dd loved it. Although i gave her half or one, wrapped the rest in clingfilm and popped in the fridge.

Apparently not so nice on day 2! pmsl! I wrote on my blog about it and someone else said that they don't keep very well at all.

I did order the mini ones but tesco were all out so i got big ones. Will try again for mini ones next time!

Thanks for the replies and ideas everyone. Mashed with banana sounds good to me as ds loves them already! (And I will have a sneaky bite myself, cant believe I've never tried one or even seen one until today )

I ususally give it in strips for ds to pick up and eat. I also spread it on toast

My DS loves it mashed with banana too, McCreamy. Last night he had avocado, banana and pear and he couldn't get it down quick enough!

As smittenkitten says
And have some yourself - ideally in a bacon or chicken sarni. Yum!
Both mine hated it at weaning stage, have to say - I was most unimpressed as it's one of the few things you can give early without cooking AND is very calorific whilst super good for you
DS (3) now loves it - dd (1) still not convinced!

I first give avocado mashed with banana & later just give it in small pieces.

we used it as an early weaning food for DS (at 6 months). just mashed it with a fork and fed it with a spoon could also cut it into strips and just let your DS chomp on them. DS loves it
