weaning regression

Hello I'm new here!

Has anyone experienced a regression with weaning? If so have you tried anything successfully to get back to normal?

My son is nearly 7 months old, we started weaning about a week before he turned 6 months and initally it's all gone really well with him accepting most tastes and loving porridge for breakfast.

for the past week however he seems to have decided that he now hates breakfast, at best he will grumble a bit and turn away between mouthfuls and at worst he will scream and bat his hands at the bowl.

He's become a lot more cautious of new tastes and although we have taken a step back giving him mainly tastes he already knows with smother consistencies lunch time can also sometimes be a bit testing.

He has been on two meals a day plus his bottles but for the past two days he's had a bottle for breakfast instead of porridge because he's got upset with the meal.

Thanks, it's comforting to know it's not just us. We tried mixing new tastes and textures with some old favourites yesterday and he ate it up happy as anything (mixed a bit of chicken casserole with sweet potato and carrot with a few strawberries)
I'm taking a step backwards with breakfast for now but I'm starting to think it might be teething that's causing the issue as he's really chewing on his fist and very grumpy (he is usually really happy and calm 90% of the time so that's really out of character)

Thank you, that's good to know and thanks for that idea too will give it a try. I'm sure he will love that as he loves all things messy haha :)

Could it be that he's just not so hungry?

One of the days, not data!

I'd say just roll with it and let him set the pace. It's fine to go back to a morning bottle for the min. Maybe make up a bit of porridge one of the data and just let him stick his hands in and play with it. Some might end up in his mouth!

The mantra I kept repeating was "Until one, food is for fun!"- really helped me relax and embrace messy eating and weaning slowly! DD now 15 months and a great little grubber. Grin

Thank you Smile, I'll give the finger food a go and see how he takes to it. I'm not in any rush just couldn't really understand why he's so unsure of food now after taking to it so well initially.

It is absolutely fine for him to have a bottle instead of food at this age, it should be the milk filling him up so don't worry about that.

If he isn't keen on the spoon, could you give him some finger food and calmly ignore what he does with it whilst you eat?

It does sound like you are a little tense over feeding him, which he could be picking up on. It is fine to offer food just once a day or even every other day at this age. Maybe a little break from weaning with help you both to relax a little Smile
