Ideas for baby's breakfast (11 months)

nicelyneurotic · 01/11/2013 09:23

Could anyone give me some ideas to vary my baby's breakfasts?

She's nearly a year old and in the last few months will only eat finger food, so things like porridge and yoghurt don't get eaten.

I just give her toast every day, but worry this is not varied enough. I've tried giving her banana but she hates this (although so do I so must be a family aversion!).

Any ideas?

Great articles hoop Smile

Sparker I believe the correct response to bullshit helpful comments at the clinic is "oh that's really interesting, can you let me have the research on that one please as I'd love to read about it myself" said with a big Smile.

there is no limit on eggs for anyone as dietary cholesterol makes little difference to the cholesterol in the blood. If you have high cholesterol you need to limit the saturated fat in your diet rather than eggs

the clinic woman said twice a week because of the colostral (though if I asked a different woman I'd probably get a completely different answer! seems to be the way with the women where I am Hmm ). seeing as my DD has only put on 2oz in 3 weeks and loves eggy bread I might up it to 3 times a week just to help make sure she eats a bit more...

Someone else mentioned the egg rule on here recently and nobody could supply a link to it. It's not mentioned on the NHS weaning pages as far as I can see.

I must remember the twice a week rule. I wasn't sure what the limits were for infants so I've been trying not to give it to her too often. Going to try the eggy bread in the morning (though it's called French toast where I'm from!)

my DD looooves eggy bread (so do I!) I'd give it to her (and me) everyday if I could! (clinic woman said egg twice a week only though Sad )

My DD is 11 months. Tries to feed herself porridge (messy). Won't take a spoon for me but laps it up at nursery (go figure!). Omelette fingers (ham & pea) are a big favourite, toast with jam, fruit, smoked mackerel & poached egg, sausages, pancakes, bacon & cheese muffins.

Never tried eggy bread, excited to try her with it this week!

I know. this is her second cold in her 8 months. last night I was up all night while she slept on me, tonight's a repeat I think. except I've set up camp on the reclining sofa with the telly Smile much better then being bored in bed alllll night with nothing to do but balance a wiggly sleeping snotty baby on your chest! lol

Much better that she catches things now though. If you kept her away from everyone then had to put her in nursery and return to work, she'd catch everything and you'd have a real problem.

No worries Sparkler, I must admit I think your DH and I are like minded when it comes to germs!

Thanks for the great breakfast ideas everyone

well, not really talked about it. I'm not going back to work till DD starts school/nursery.
I do take her out and about. dh doesn't like it but if I didn't we would both go crazy with staying in the house all day everyday! we went to a stay and play last week. loved it! going again next week.
I know germs and other children are important for her immune system and stuff so I take shat he says on board.....then do what I want anyway!! Lol Grin

Getting exposed to other chikdren and germs is good for their immune system though and not detrimental, well usually anyway. Have you talked about how he will cope if you have to return to work or when dd starts school?

I'm fairly laid back but I do worry about food! Lol

my dh is worse! I'd love to take DD out to parks and zoos and the baby places where they have ball pits and stuff but dh doesn't like it/allow it yet coz of all the germs and her still being a 'baby' (she's 8 months, nearly a toddler for goodness sake!)! that gets annyoing! lol Confused

My DH is very much like that too sparker. If he's got nothing to worry about, he'll worry about that! Gets a bit frustrated with my fuck it, it'll be fine attitude sometimes but I suppose we balance one another out nicely.

As pale says! they get seeds in berries so seeded jam should be fine Smile

As far as I know seeds are fine! Smile DS loves fresh raspberries and strawberries so eats lots of seeds, can't imagine it is too different in jam (no ill effects here so far).
