I caught one passing through Houghton on Tuesday, Rudedog! Cp2903! Only "decent" but fine for plonking in a gym.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 11/08/2017 19:32

Congrats on your wild Dragonites guys!

wartortle · 11/08/2017 20:09

My first legendary critical catch 😊

Just checking in on the new thread. I'm really feeling for everyone that isn't managing to do raids because of lack of numbers. We managed to find a local fb group and have met lots of really nice people and taken part in loads of raids. I've managed to rack up 8 Articunos, 5 Moltres, 3 Zapdos (so far hoping to up that) and 5 Lugia (again hoping to increase that number).

Just a thought but if people are putting Pokémon in the gyms and battling them etc then surely there are people near you playing the game? Possibly a bit desperate but stick a sign up at the gym saying looking for people to do raids with and start your own local fb group.

On another note finally did a Snorlax raid today and caught it, my first decent one 89%IV Grin

Congrats wartortle!

Sharpstagram · 12/08/2017 09:18

Hi everyone, just found this thread how amazing!!

@Smashie11 HOW ARE YOU DOING IT?! How have you managed to catch so many legendaries? My DP is more into it than I am but has only managed 1 Lugia and I've got nothing. Any tips??

Smashie11 · 12/08/2017 10:05

sharps we seem to have been quite lucky with the legendaries (my DD has 11 Lugia Shock). We do go to a lot of raids so we are spending money on coins for extra raid passes (still cheaper and more fun than taking kids to soft play etc). Golden raspberry and curved spiny balls is the way to go. Also the circle target should be at the smallest when you throw. Watch the bird for a bit there is usually a pattern to its movements so you can throw your ball and always hit. Some people think if you feed it a nanab berry first and then throw your ball and then feed it a golden raspberry and throw next ball you will catch it. Unconfirmed in our group of raiders, works sometimes but not others. Worth a bash though. Good luck Smile

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 12/08/2017 10:41

HOW ARE YOU DOING IT?!

Legendaries have a base catch rate of 3%. The type of ball you throw can increase that dramatically. For example, an 'excellent' curve ball with a golden raspberry is the best chance you have.

Check out this chart.

Also DH and I have lots of legendaries simply because we've bought lots of ultra boxes (for the raid passes) and gone to several raids nearly every day since they started.

Some people think if you feed it a nanab berry first and then throw your ball and then feed it a golden raspberry and throw next ball you will catch it.

This is not true; it's just one of those things flying around. Same as the whole "let those who haven't got one yet throw the first ball" bollocks Grin

Only 60k off level 35. The forecast for this afternoon is yucky, so we're off on a quest for bus routes with lots of white rings.

Ruhrpott · 12/08/2017 11:25

There's a huge meet up in Cardiff today at 1 so I might go and tag on to that. The kids want to go I to town anyway so can drop them off at the shops and then go raiding for an hour then meet up with them for food.

i have all the legendaries too think I have three lugias, four articuno, four moltres and two zapdos and all unowns and many kangas so don't really need any more today but raiding in big groups is fun. I have also bought a couple of the small special boxes. Fist I was a bit funny about spending money but it's fun and less than a Starbucks!

Ruhrpott · 12/08/2017 11:26

I even went out in the pouring rain and did a raid under a brolly last night.

tumpymummy · 12/08/2017 11:34

Thankyou whatstodo found you all again! Smile

wartortle · 12/08/2017 11:36

I think the nanab golden "trick" is more that nanab effects do seem to last for a couple of turns so if you nanab then throw quickly you can potentially get a better shot easier on the golden raspberry one and up your catch rate that way.

DoctorTwo · 12/08/2017 12:42

Just carried out a gym raid from my sofa. It was a 5207CP Croconaw and my 2584CP Golem took it out in under a minute, suffering hardly any damage. I'm a bit shocked, even though it was a Level 1 raid.

Then I got to chuck balls at it. I gave it a Golden Razzberry. My first Curveball was wide. My second was headed away like a world class centre half. My third connected with a Nice! and it settled. Croconaw was caught!

I'm beyond chuffed. :o

There's a Snorlax in the gym outside my place; what's the best critters to get rid of it?

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 12/08/2017 15:39

You can reach a gym from your sofa! You lucky stick!

I caught a wild Snorlax today, I am so happy, never seen a wild one before. We walked a few miles on a coastal path and the obscure pokestops always have decent 'mon.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 12/08/2017 16:13

tumpymummy What can I say except 'you're welcome'? Grin

All berry effects only last for as long as it evades the ball. If it gets in the ball but you don't catch it, it still "eats" the berry and you lose the effects.

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus Congrats on your Snorlax!

PickAChew · 12/08/2017 16:45

Down to 30k.

Didn't manage a single raid. The rain was swirling around under my brolly and made it impossible.

cottonwool125 · 12/08/2017 16:54

Just been for a walk with the sole intention of walking off my only 10km egg. There were only a couple of things I didn't want, the rest I would have been more than happy with. Top of the list was Snorlax (don't have), Lapras (both of mine are wild captures and very weak), or any of the 'mon needed for rare evolutions (so Larvitar, Dratini or Mareep). Porygon would have been good too, new addition to the dex and I have an upgrade ready and waiting for when I have enough candies.

Hatched a bloody Skarmory Sad I do like Skarmory, but they're pretty useless for anything other than a dex filler aren't they? Or is it worth investing stardust and candies in to him? Are they ever good in gyms/defending/fighting?

On the bright side, at least it wasn't a Soduwoodu or a Chinchou Grin

pinkblink · 12/08/2017 17:51

Am I right in thinking skamory will evolve in a future gen? Hope so or il be pretty annoyed I have 150 candies as I keep hatching them 😂

cottonwool125 · 12/08/2017 17:56

Pinkblink pretty sure it doesn't Sad

Mrsmomo · 12/08/2017 18:33

Ive been house cleaning today so have not yet got out for my pokestop. Planning to head out soon as it's my day 7. Might get to do a gym. DH says there are a couple of charizards holding local gyms - what does anyone reckon I should use to kick
It's ass?

Mrsmomo · 12/08/2017 18:34

DrTwo I am both impressed and very jealous that you can do gyms from your sofa !!!!!! (Composes a quick begging e mail to niantic.......)

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 12/08/2017 22:55

You're right; they're pretty useless. I wouldn't invest any stardust or candies in them; it would just be a waste. I have never used mine to fight or defend.

Am I right in thinking skamory will evolve in a future gen?

Nope; Skarmory never evolves.

DH says there are a couple of charizards holding local gyms - what does anyone reckon I should use to kick It's ass?

Charizard is fire/flying, so your best bet is rock - it's super effective against both fire and flying.

High CP Pokemon like Golem or Rhydon that have Stone Edge are the best to use, but don't use either Pokemon if they have ground moves - you need rock.

Water and electric are effective too, so any high CP Pokemon that have water or electric moves should be your go-to after rock.

Mrsmomo · 12/08/2017 23:21

Great info. So is earthquake a ground move then?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 12/08/2017 23:26

So is earthquake a ground move then?

Yes, Earthquake is a ground move, and the most powerful ground move.

Ground is super effective against electric, fire, poison, rock and steel, however it is weak to flying (and grass and bug), hence why you shouldn't use it against Charizard.

You can tell what type the moves are by the little symbols next to them; check out the handy chart I've added as a picture Smile
