Vegan "sausage" rolls

I am doing some baking for an even and I am making sausage rolls so I was looking to do a vegan alternative. I have seen a recipe on BBC Good food but does anyone have any tried and tested recipes they recommend?

Unfortunately, I'm afraid I don't have any particular recipe to recommend.

I made some over Christmas using the "meat" from vegan sausages with a little bit of caramelised onion laid on top. They turned out nicely.

There was also a vegan sausage roll in the last series of the Great British Bake Off. I've been meaning to make it, but haven't got around to it yet, sadly, so I can't vouch for it.

Anyway, recipe is here:

It's really nice that you're doing a vegan alternative.

I don't make my own but do cook Birds Eye Green Cuisine sausage rolls. Definitely yummy,

In the same vein, No Bull meat free Pasties cook from frozen and are delicious.

DS did them for his catering GCSE, last week. I will try to ask him later. Rough puff pastry was the key objective. He used different sorts of vegan 'burger' meat for filling.

I'd skin Richmond meat free sausages, and a bit of fried onion and dried herbs maybe with vegan puff pastry.
If I wanted to go all out, I'd make vegan rough puff pastry, like @lljkk's DS

Turns out DS's rolls were vegtn not vegan so he used butter in the pastry ... he says rough puff pastry is harder to make with margarine, different melting point.

he didn't really follow a recipe, just relied on the pre-made fake meat stuff in vegan burgers.

I made some with the Richmond sausages and added some maple syrup and seasoning. Was very nice.

I think most supermarket and jus-roll readymade pastry is already vegan, they just don’t shout about it because obviously it means poorer quality ingredients. But hopefully that will make life easier if you don’t need to make the party from scratch.
Or if you did want to buy, the plant pioneers ones frozen from Sainsbury’s are delicious.

Vegan block and margarine are not the same. You have to use a vegan block butter and not vegan spread, which has too much moisture. I made these rolls with it using it grated and frozen and it was not any more difficult than with butter.

I skin Richmond’s vegan and cover with a skinny layer of all butter puff ( so veggie in the end, not vegan).

Margarine is more like vegan spread. You have to get Vegan block butter. I used it grated and frozen as the recipe says and did not find it any more difficult to do than butter. I found the pastry to be the easy part of the recipe. Very flavorful and good.

We are a palm oil free household so it could be even cheaper if you use regular store bought pastry.

Google Felicity Cloake vegetarian sausage rolls. Fantastic recipe, I also fry the filling for home made sausages.

These are delicious. I never add the dried cranberries as my kids would think they were a bit wrong. Pinhead oatmeal from Sainsburys.
