What are some nice beaches not too far from West Midlands via train? Will be travelling with a toddler.

Nice sandy beaches.

Are you talking about a week's holiday or a day trip ?

I think you can get a direct train to Barmouth.

Travelling to Weston on a train isn't the best as you have to change and it takes a while considering how close it is. Also the beach isn't the best !

You may find a coach easier - and certainly a lot cheaper.

Of course there is Weston too but no idea how you get there on a train easily. You often see coach trips there in some travel agent windows though.

Trains to mid wales are slow.

Either straight up to Liverpool and out to Formby or down to Cardiff and out to Barry / Penarth.

Horsey point near Hunstanton. Lovely beach and lots of seals there. Spelling might be wrong

All beaches are far from the West Midlands.

Which station would you be travelling from? I think the train line you're on will make a big difference to which beach is the quickest to get to.

If you and your toddler are ok on a coach, National Express normally does a direct one from Brum to Tenby in the summer months. The beaches there are fab. It is quite a long way though.

New Street to Aberystwyth is about three hours I think. Some trains you need to change at Shrewsbury, others are direct.

There are no beaches 'near' the west midlands.

Are you looking for a day trip or a holiday/weekend?

Where are you starting from? There is most likely to be a direct train to Bournemouth. But I'd go to Cardiff and then change for Barry Island.

There aren't any beaches near the Midlands, that's why they're called what they are.

I think Barmouth is on a direct train line from Birmingham, but it isn't a short journey, I'd guess over 2 hours.

It really depends where about in the West Midlands you start out. I'm in Staffordshire and the nearest to me are Llandudno or Formby.

Same! Or Thursaston.

Weston-super-Mare has a sandy beach but the tide goes out for miles leaving dangerous mud flats.
If I was you I would head for the south coast, somewhere like Swanage or Bournemouth.

You are about as far from a beach as its possible to be in the UK. If you get a train to Chester, you can change there for the North Wales coastal train, this stops at a few beach towns and carries on to Angelsey.
Otherwise I'd go to Birmingham and get the train up to Blackpool or down to Weston Supermare.
