Haven holidays

Anyone been to a particularly good haven holiday park please? We're in West Yorkshire and probably want to travel no more than three hours.

Looking to go next May half term for the week. We've already done a few on the east coast and happy to go back, but would like to try others as well.

Needs to be a coastal site ideally, with plenty to do on site but also nearby too to entertain 8yo DS. He loves swimming, climbing, anything outdoors really and needs to be constantly moving.

I'm off to thorpe park on monday been several times and we like it. Tried primrose valley too, washed but too big for us as a long way for kiddies to walk

Craig Tara and Berwick score high on my list.

We live in West Yorkshire too and we've done Primrose Valley and Blue Dolphin a fair few times

I've been to Devon Cliffs, which was great and the beach is nice. I came back from Weymouth not long ago and it was fucking awful. They closed the three sites due to a wedding party misbehaving at one of the sites (there are three) so they closed all the facilities as they "could not guarantee our safety" at all three sites and said we could stay for 25% refund or leave for a 100% refund. We haven't had it back and it was a month ago we went. They have been saying my refund is "processed" for about 3 weeks now.

The sites still have COVID rules in place, so you have to book activities, but some reviews online say there aren't enough to go round, so people are purchasing stay and play packages, but reporting they aren't able to "play". Some reviews are reporting facilities not even opening due to staffing issues too, so limited entertainment and restaurant places. I certainly wouldn't book Haven again, despite having a brilliant time at the Devon Cliff site. There are lots of bad reviews out there about their customer service. I think they are going through a bit of a bad patch at the moment.

There are some great parks that offer similar facilities, which might be worth checking out, but I think we are booking something a bit more low key after this experience! Sorry to put a dampener on your plans, but I've wasted so much time chasing people on the phone for a holiday I didn't even get and am still waiting for a refund for, that I thought I'd best warn you.

Primrose Valley at Filey is lovely, if you go on Facebook there is a group called Primrose Valley & Reighton Sands Private Caravan Hire, the caravans are excellent, most are owned by one man, he is lovely & his caravans are top of the range ones with Sky TV & WiFi.

Yes I was going to say Berwick you can walk into town for a bar lunch or a walkabout. I think haggerston is a better site though. Your so lucky to have a caravan there

I know it was a lockdown purchase and we feel so lucky to be able to have holidays whenever we like. The kids absolutely love it.

Hafan Y Mor site is really good and loads to do on site. It backs on to the Wales cost path so you can go out of the back of the site to the beach or you can walk a few mile either way on the coast path..

Due to it's location you do have to drive to find things to do off park but there's plenty to do in North Wales. We're fans of Criccieth beach, Abersoch, Caernarfon is great for a day out- we are fairly close so usually stop on the way there or back. Things like Zip world bounce below or attractions on Anglesey also reasonably close.

Weirdly we are currently at Caister on Sea and couldn't fault it.

We have been to Mablethorpe and Caister on Sea, and prefer Caister.
Right by the beach, loads of activities and not far to Great Yarmouth

We’re in West Yorkshire too and decided on Primrose Valley in Filey Smile
Less than 2 hours by car, lots and lots of things to do on site and the beach is only 10 mins away.
Our kids loved it and we will definately go again!

Yes we loved primrose valley. Berwick and Haggerston are good too. We stay just outside Edinburgh so it’s only a few hours drive for us to Northumberland.

I've got my own van at Haggerston. Beach is a 10 minute drive away. The site has a ropes course, segways, archery, pedalos, go karts, lots of outdoor stuff like den building. My kids are never bored. Loads of days out nearby too.
Berwick is a lot smaller but does have the advantage that you can walk into the town and access to the beach as well.

Golden sands, Mablethorpe is great. Huge sandy beach, lots of on site activities and also a seal sanctuary nearby.

Kiln Park isn't much of a site but it's walkable to Tenby which is lovely and lots of attractions for families in the area.

We’ve just come back from Thorpe park. Loads of activities. Probably fits your criteria. Cleethorpes not overly pretty though.

I’ve heard good things about primrose valley.

Went to Berwick last year which was nice but I don’t think enough activities for your criteria

Ooh brilliant, some lovely ideas here. I'll have a look.

@Fluffmonkey82

I have been to quite a few Haven sites and my favourite is Berwick as it is such a friendly lovely wee park but maybe not enough activities for you. Thorpe Park is massive and has good beach access, just back from Hafan Y Mor, the park itself is lovely and the pool is amazing but there's not a lot to do in the surrounding area well there wasn't for my kids.

Yeah we schlepped them to Abersoch beach, Criccieth beach, Carnarvon Castle etc. And when they were really tiny we drove around a lot! Whilst they slept in the car Grin there's nothing to walk to. The heritage railway at Porthmadog is fab. Takes you to a lovely old disused railway station with loads of kid stuff.
