Hotel recommendations in Kent or Sussex

Looking for a posh hotel to book later in the year for a couple of nights to celebrate my husband's 50th (assuming it's allowed by then). Does anyone have any good recommendations in Kent or Sussex that don't cost the earth? Thanks!

The London Beach at Tenterden is nice, golf course, spa etc, rooms with balconies overlooking the countryside. Convenient for a visit to Leeds Castle or Canterbury or the coast (or Dungeness RSPB and NNR for twitchers). Tenterden itself is a nice town, lots of little shops for nosing about in.
Port Lympne Reserve for the animal lovers. Lots of accommodation options here, from posh hotel to glamping. You get your own golf cart to drive round to see the animals.
If anyone is a foodie, then the very swish rooms above The Wife of Bath at Wye include some gastronomic treats. It's part of the Mark Sargeant group, the food is excellent. His flagship restaurant Rocksalt on Folkestone Harbour also offers very nice rooms around the corner. The food at Rocksalt is amazing, and they have outdoor dining on a balcony built over the harbour, a wonderful outdoor lunch venue on a sunny day.

The Sands in Margate, or The Grand in Brighton.

In Sussex there is south lodge Horsham, Alexander house, East Grinstead, Ashdown Park Hotel, Ockenden Manor cuckfield, The Grand Brighton, buxted park... I’m local though so am only recommending these on the quality of their afternoon teas or Christmas parties.. 🤣 there’s also a well recommended place at Rye I can’t remember the name of.

The George in Rye I think PP meant. Rye is perfect for a mooch around.

Also Gravetye Manor - East Grinstead way.

Powdermills in Battle is gorgeous!

I stayed at the Grand in Brighton for a big birthday and was disappointed. Public areas are impressive but the room was absolutely tiny for the money and really nothing special.

Bailiffscourt in Clymping. Amberley Castle (most amazing place!!).

Spread Eagle in Midhurst is lovely: nice rooms, great spa and fabulous restaurant and a lovely quaint town to walk around.
Amberley Castle is also gorgeous and the food is to die for. Don't really rate Bailiffscourt though: spa and food is mediocre.

I had forgotten Bailiffscourt. Stayed there a few years ago. Absolutely stunnning!

Mermaid in Rye? I’ve eaten there but not stayed the night. It’s proper haunted historical.

The George in Rye had a large fire in 2019. Not sure when it's due to re-open.

The Pig at Bridge Place looks good, though I've never been.

So Bailiffscourt, Spread Eagle and Ockenden Manor are in a hotel group. Spread Eagle's my favourite but Ockenden is also nice.

Leeds castle - beautiful setting.

Also, watch the recent programme with Sandi Tosvig in. She featured three beautiful properties in Kent.
