Stop Off between Manchester and Weymouth

Hi we are going to Weymouth soon for a few days, on the way back home to Manchester we was going to stop off over night somewhere, but wanted it to be somewhere where could actually do something, i.e. near an attraction something that would be appropriate for a 18 month old. Anybody any ideas??
